Jimir Reece Davis [1] (born 1997), [2] known professionally as Amorphous, is an American music producer and disk jockey. He is best known for his mashups, which frequently combine classic soul and pop music with contemporary hip hop and R&B. His viral mashup of Rihanna's "Kiss It Better" and Luther Vandross's "Never Too Much" is featured on the Fat Joe single "Sunshine (The Light)".

Early life and education

Davis was raised in Huntingdon Valley, near Philadelphia. [3] He attended Abington Friends School, Lower Moreland High School and graduated with his bachelor's degree in film from Full Sail University in 2018. [1]

Career

Amorphous gained wide prominence in 2020 after posting a mashup of the Luther Vandross song "Never Too Much" and Rihanna’s "Kiss It Better" to Twitter. [4] The clip was viewed approximately three million times and led to a collaboration with DJ Khaled and Fat Joe, who used the track in the song "Sunshine (The Light)." [4] The song peaked at number 6 on Billboard's Rhythmic Airplay chart. [4]

Amorphous released his debut EP Things Take Shape featuring Kelly Rowland, James Fauntleroy, Kehlani, and Brandy in July 2021. [5] He also worked with Mariah Carey for the "Butterfly" 25th Anniversary Club Remix. [4] In 2023, Beyoncé used an Amorphous mashup during her Renaissance World Tour. [6] [7]

Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr. was an American soul and R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer. Throughout his career, he achieved eleven consecutive RIAA-certified platinum albums and sold over 40 million records worldwide. Known as the "Velvet Voice", Vandross has been recognized as one of the 200 greatest singers of all time (2023) by Rolling Stone, as well as one of the greatest R&B artists by Billboard. In addition, NPR named him one of the 50 Great Voices. He was the recipient of eight Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year in 2004 for a track recorded not long before his death, "Dance with My Father". In 2021, he was posthumously inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame.

These artists include Joe, for whom Woodruff has directed 9 music videos since 1994, and Toni Braxton, with whom he has worked 10 times since 1996. Woodruff directed the videos for some of Braxton's biggest singles, including "Un-Break My Heart", "You're Makin' Me High", and "He Wasn't Man Enough".

Dance with My Father is the thirteenth and final studio album by American R&B/soul singer Luther Vandross. It was released by J Records on June 10, 2003 in the United States and served as the follow-up to his self-titled studio album (2001). The album, especially its title track, was dedicated to Vandross's late father and features production credits from Nat Adderley Jr., Shep Crawford, and Marcus Miller as well as guest appearances by singer Beyoncé, R&B trio Next, and rappers Foxy Brown, Queen Latifah, and Busta Rhymes.

The Essence Festival, known as "the party with a purpose", is an annual music festival which started in 1995 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African-American women. It became the largest African-American culture and music event in the United States. "So Amazing" is a 1983 song by Dionne Warwick. It was written by Luther Vandross and Marcus Miller and produced by the former for her studio album How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye (1983). Three years later, Vandross himself covered the song for his fifth studio album Give Me the Reason (1986). Released as a single, it entered the top 40 on the UK Singles Chart and earned a Soul Train Music Award nomination in 1988.

The most nominated act of the ceremony was Lil Wayne with 18 nods, followed by Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa with 9. Rick Ross was the third most nominated with 8 nods, while Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj each scored 6.

The 2017 Soul Train Music Awards took place on November 5, 2017, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and aired on BET Her and BET on November 26, 2017. American singer and songwriter Toni Braxton was honored with the Legend Award for her contributions to the music industry, while the R&B girl group SWV received the Lady of Soul Award.

Nova Wav is a record production and songwriting duo composed of Brittany "Chi" Coney and Denisia "Blu June" Andrews. Over the course of their career, Nova Wav has written and produced on tracks and albums for artists including Beyoncé, Rihanna, DJ Khaled, Ariana Grande, Jay-Z, Saweetie, Nicki Minaj, Teyana Taylor, Kehlani and more.
