Amy Melissa Harris-Willock (born 14 September 1987 in Birmingham) [1] [2] is an English long jumper of Antiguan descent competing as Amy Harris, [3] and a former titleholder of the pageant Miss Caribbean UK. [4]

Athletics career

Competing under her birth name Amy Harris and a member of UK Athletics, she won the long jump gold medal at the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games in Bendigo, Victoria with a jump of 6.19 m (20.3 ft) [5] and silver at the 2005 European Athletics Junior Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania with a personal best jump of 6.35 m (20.8 ft). [6] [7]

She was holder of the England Athletics Championship outdoors under-20 women's long jump record 2006–12 with a jump of 6.40 m (21.0 ft) made while she was competing for Birchfield Harriers athletics club. [8]

Harris attended courses at Florida State University 2008–12 during which time she competed both for the Florida State Seminoles [9] [10] and Birchfield Harriers. [11] In 2010, she won silver at the UK championships in Birmingham and gold at the England Track and Field Championships in Gateshead. [11]

She was Atlantic Coast Conference champion in both outdoor and indoor long jump for 2012 [10] and made the fourth best ever long jump at Florida State with 21 ft 1.25 in (6.43 m). [10]

In 2014 Harris, whose grandfather Etel Nathaniel Willock lived in Bolans until his death in 2010, [12] transferred her allegiance to Antigua and Barbuda in recognition of her heritage and is a member of the Antigua & Barbuda Athletic Association. She is the national record holder for the long jump. She competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games long jump. [13]

Miss Caribbean UK 2015

Amy Harris-Willock competed and won the 2015 edition of Miss Caribbean UK. She was selected from four finalists in the Birmingham heat of the pageant competition on 25 July 2015. She then went on to join sixteen other hopefuls from around the United Kingdom and was placed as one of the seven who made it through to the final round at the Grand Finalé on 5 December at the Shaw Theatre. [14]

She won best evening gown in her red bespoke tailored dress designed exclusively for her by Francis Agyapong of AgyeFrance Design. [15] She was then announced the 2015 winner of the entire competition. [16]

Fourth in the 1996 Olympic final, she broke the world indoor record when winning the 1998 European Indoor title, and went on to win gold medals at the World Indoor Championships in 1999 and 2003, at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002, and at the 2002 European Championships. Her British records of 15.15 metres and 15.16 metres, still stand.

Joanne Wise is a female former British track and field athlete who competed in the long jump. In 1998, she won the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Kuala Lumpur. She also competed at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992 and the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.

Yamilé Aldama Pozo is a Cuban-born triple jumper. She represented Cuba until 2003, Sudan from 2004 to 2010, then Great Britain from 2011 onwards. A four-time Olympian (2000–12), she won a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships and a gold medal at the 2012 World Indoor Championships.

Louise Victoria Hazel is an English track and field athlete from March, Cambridgeshire, who specialises in the multi-event heptathlon. She has competed in four major international championships. The first was in 2006 when she came 17th at the European Championships and the second was three years later when she finished 14th at the World Championships. During 2009 she was ranked 2nd best in the country and 9th best of all time. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games she won the gold medal for the England team, with a personal best of 6156 points. At the 2011 Mehrkampf-Meeting Ratingen she scored 6166 points but this included wind-assisted performances and she also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In July 2012 she appeared with Tasha Danvers, Mark Foster and Derek Redmond on the Channel 4 programme Come Dine with Me prior to her Olympics competition, and won the show.

The event uses a pageant to promote, educate, inspire and celebrate the historical and cultural impact of the Caribbean within the United Kingdom. The Patron is Barrister and TV personality Shaun Wallace. 

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Miss Caribbean UK 2015</span> Beauty pageant

Miss Caribbean UK 2015, the 2nd edition of the Miss Caribbean UK pageant, was held on 5 December 2015 at the Shaw Theatre in London, UK. Keeleigh Griffith crowned her successor, the Commonwealth long jump athlete Amy Harris-Willock, who was representing Antigua and Barbuda. Sixteen contestants competed for the crown.

Miss Caribbean UK 2016, the 3rd edition of the Miss Caribbean UK pageant, was held on 3 December 2016 at the Broadway Theatre in Catford London, UK. Amy Harris-Willock crowned her successor, the model, Jodie Hodgson, who was representing Barbados. Thirteen contestants competed for the crown.
