The 2017 British Indoor Athletics Championships was a national track and field competition for British athletes, held on 11 and 12 February 2017 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England. The event served as the team trials for the 2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Racewalker Tom Bosworth gave the highlight performance of the meeting, breaking the British record for the 5000 metres walk at 18:39.47 minutes

Galen Rupp is an American long-distance runner. He competed in the Summer Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London, and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. In London he won the silver medal in the men's 10,000 meters, and in Rio de Janeiro he won the bronze medal in the men's marathon. Rupp has competed for the University of Oregon and trained under Alberto Salazar as a member of the Nike Oregon Project. He won the 2017 Chicago Marathon, the first American to do so since Khalid Khannouchi in 2002.

Sally Jepkosgei Kipyego is a Kenyan-born American long- and middle-distance runner. She was the silver medallist in the 10,000 metres at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and the silver medalist in the same race at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She has a personal record of 30:38.35 minutes for that event and her 5000 metres best of 14:30.42 minutes makes her the second fastest Kenyan woman for the distance.

Vernon competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the men's 10,000 metres. He has also competed in two Commonwealth Games, a World Indoor Championship and six World Cross Country Championships. Vernon is a two-time European Athletics Championship medallist and a Summer Universiade gold medallist. He currently competes for Aldershot, Farnham & District AC.

Dejen Gebremeskel is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who primarily competes in track events. His personal best of 12:46.81 minutes for the 5000 metres ranks him as the fifth fastest of all time for the distance. She became the first British woman to win the NCAA Women's Division I Cross Country Championship in 2014, running for Iona College.

Leonard Essau Korir is a Kenyan-born American long-distance runner who competes over distances from 5000 meters to the half marathon. He was twice NCAA champion, winning an indoor 5000 m title and outdoor 10,000 meters title in 2011 for the Iona Gaels. He gained United States citizenship and began competing for his adoptive nation in 2016.

Amy-Eloise Markovc is a British female long-distance runner based in the United States. She competes in cross country running and track events. She is married to Jernej Markovc, who competed as a rower for the Slovenian National Team and University of Washington.
