The 2022 British Athletics Championships was the national championships in outdoor track and field for athletes in the United Kingdom, which also served as a qualifying event for the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
The 2022 British Athletics Championships were held from the 24–24 June 2022 at the Manchester Regional Arena. [1] The event was used to determine British qualifiers for the 2022 World Athletics Championships. [1] The Championships were broadcast on the BBC Sport website. [2]
The British title for the 10,000 metres event was held in May 2022 at the Night of the 10,000m PBs event. The women's race was won by Jessica Judd, who qualified for the World Championships as a result. The men's competition was won by Italian Yeman Crippa, with Sam Atkin as the highest finishing Briton, and thus the British title winner. [3]
Daryll Neita won the women's 100 and 200 metres events, the first time since 2010 that a woman had won both races at the same British Athletics Championships. [4] [5] Neita missed the qualifying time for the 200 metres event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships by 0.01 seconds; [6] her times at these Championships were excluded from the qualification criteria as both races had a large tail wind. [7] Jeremiah Azu won the men's 100 metres event, and both Neita and Azu's victories were considered upsets, as Dina Asher-Smith and Reece Prescod were considered the favourites for the events. [7] [8] Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake won the men's 200 metres event in a championship record time of 20.05 seconds. [5] [6] Victoria Ohuruogu, the sister of former Olympic gold medallist Christine, won the 400 metres event. [8] Matthew Hudson-Smith won the men's 400 metres race in a British Championships record time of 44.92 seconds. [8] Tade Ojora won the men's 110 metres hurdles event for the second consecutive year, but also missed out on qualifying for the World Championships due to a large tail wind. [9]
In the field events, Holly Bradshaw won her tenth pole vault championship. [10] Charlotte Payne won the hammer throw event with the third best throw by a British woman in history. [10] Jade Lally won her eighth British discus throw title, and Lorraine Ugen won her fifth British long jump title. [11] Elliot Thompson, the son of Daley Thompson, won the decathlon event. It was his first British title. [7]
The 400 metres wheelchair events were won by Nathan Maguire and Hannah Cockroft respectively. [5] Melanie Woods and Eden Rainbow-Cooper finished second and third respectively in the women's race. [4]

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill is a retired British track and field athlete from England, specialising in the heptathlon and 100 metres hurdles. As a competitor in heptathlon, she is the 2012 Olympic champion, a three-time world champion, and the 2010 European champion. She is also the 2010 World Indoor pentathlon champion. A member of the City of Sheffield & Dearne athletic club, she is a former British national record holder for the heptathlon. She is also a former British record holder in the 100 metres hurdles, the high jump and the indoor pentathlon.
Sir Mohamed Muktar Jama Farah is a British-Somali long-distance runner. His ten global championship gold medals make him the most successful male track distance runner ever, and he is the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic Games history.
The British Athletics Championships is the premier national championship in track and field held in the United Kingdom, and are organised by British Athletics. The event has doubled as the main trials meet for international team selection for major events in which Great Britain and Northern Ireland compete, including the Olympic Games, the IAAF World Championships in Athletics and the European Athletics Championships. Only British athletes may formally compete, though in some circumstances British club-affiliated foreign athletes may take part as guests.
Asha Solette Philip is an English sprinter and former junior gymnast specialising in double mini-trampoline. She was the first British woman to achieve a global 100 metres title at any age-group, winning gold at the 2007 World Youth Championships aged 16. Following a serious knee injury in gymnastics, and a rehabilitation period of several years, she returned to athletics full-time in 2014, winning gold at the European Athletics Championships in the 4 x 100 metres relay for Great Britain, and bronze in the same event at the Commonwealth Games for England.
Sir Charles Lawrence Somerset Clarke, 7th Baronet, OLY is a former professional 110 m hurdler who finished fourth in the London Olympic Games 110 m hurdles final. He is the son of Sir Toby Clarke, 6th Baronet and succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death in 2019. He served as Captain of the Great Britain Athletics Team at the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships and was coached in Bath by Malcolm Arnold. He was coached in Paris by Giscard Samba Koundys for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He currently works for Citigroup in London. He is also a member of the American Roosevelt family.
David "Dai" Greene is a British hurdler who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles, competing internationally for both Wales and Great Britain. In a 'golden' sixteen-month period between 2010 and 2011, Greene dominated the event at international level, winning the World, European, Diamond League and Commonwealth titles in quick succession, in addition to winning the event as part of both the European Team Championships and the IAAF Continental Cup. Hindered by a knee injury, Greene finished in 4th at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and the same injury prevented him from being competitive at global level thereafter.
Zharnel Hughes is an Anguillan-born British sprinter who specialises in the 100 metres and 200 metres. Born and raised in the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla, he has competed internationally for Great Britain in the Olympic Games, World Athletics and European Athletics events, and for England at the Commonwealth Games, since 2015.
Desirèe Henry is an English sprinter of Antiguan and Guyanese descent who competes in the 100 metres and 200 metres. She won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the 2016 Rio Games, and a silver medal in the 4 × 100 m relay at the World Athletics Championships in London on 12 August 2017.
Geraldina "Dina" Rachel Asher-Smith, OLY is a British sprinter. She is the fastest British woman on record. She won a gold medal in the 200 metres, silver in the 100 metres and another silver in the 4×100 m relay at the 2019 World Championships, breaking her own British records with further records which still stand. Aged 24, Asher-Smith was the first Briton to win three medals at a World Championships. She earned a bronze in the 200 m at the 2022 World Championships. As part of 4×100 m relay teams, she won medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and also at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships.
Daryll Neita is a British sprinter. In 2022, she won her first individual international medals, with bronze in the 100 metres at both the European Championships and Commonwealth Games. Neita claimed bronze for the 60 metres at the 2023 European Indoor Championships. She has won several medals as part of Great Britain 4 × 100 m relay teams, including Olympic bronze medals in 2016 and 2021, World Championships silver medals in 2017 and 2019, and European gold in 2018.
Andrew Butchart is a British runner who competed in the 5000 metres event at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. He is the current Scottish record holder in the 3000, 5000 and 10,000 metre events.
Shannon Hylton is an English sprinter. She represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2017 World Championships. She narrowly missed qualifying for the semifinals.
Jacob Paul is a British hurdler who won the 400 metres hurdles event at the 2019 British Athletics Championships. He competed for England at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
The 2021 British Athletics Championships was the national championships in outdoor track and field for athletes in the United Kingdom, which also served as the main qualifying event for athletics competitors for the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics. In addition, the Championships included a number of parasports events, with a total of 36 competitors in these competitions. On 29 June 2021, UK Athletics announced 65 athletes that would compete for Team GB at the Olympics, taking the total number of British athletics competitors at the Games to 72. In July 2021, four more athletes qualified for the Games based on their World Athletics rankings.
The 2022 British Indoor Athletics Championships were the national indoor track and field competition for British athletes, held on 26 and 27 February 2022 at Arena Birmingham. The competition served as a qualification event for the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships, and on 1 March, 33 British competitors were announced for that championships, and this was increased to 36 a couple of days later.
Jeremiah Azu is a Welsh sprinter. He competed in the 2022 British Athletics Championships where he won the 100 metres in a wind-assisted time of 9.90 seconds. He has won multiple championships in the junior athletics categories.
Omotade Ojora is a British hurdler, who won the 110 metres hurdles events at the 2021 and 2022 British Athletics Championships. He has competed in US college athletics for USC Trojans.
Hannah Brier is a British sprinter who won the 200 metres event at the 2022 British Indoor Athletics Championships. She competed at the 2014 and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The 2023 British Indoor Athletics Championships were the national indoor track and field competition for British athletes, held on 18 and 19 February 2023 at Arena Birmingham. The competition served as a qualification event for the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
