Rio Mitcham (born 30 August 1999) is a British track and field athlete who competes as a sprinter.

Career

He won a silver medal at the England Athletics u23 Championship in June 2021 in the 400 metres. [1] [2] In July 2022 at the British Championships Mitcham ran a personal best to qualify for the final and then secured a bronze medal in the final with an improved personal best time of 46.22. [3]

He was a member of the British relay team that ran in the 2022 European Athletics Championships – Men's 4 × 400 metres relay, winning gold in Munich. [4]

He was selected for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023 and competed in the mixed 4 × 400 m relay. He won a silver medal as the British team set a new national record time of 3:11.06. [5]

Personal life

He was an alumnus of Loughborough University. [6] In 2022 Mitchum competed in the eleventh series of the music reality TV show The Voice performing as Smokiecoco with his brother Alex. The brothers were successful in their initial audition, joining Will.i.am's team for the latter stages of the competition. [7]

Jennifer Brenda "Jenny" Meadows is a retired British athlete. Her main event was the 800 metres, although she previously competed also over the 400 metres. She won the bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships, and a silver at the 2010 World Indoor Championships. At the European Athletics Championships, Meadows took silver outdoors in 2010 and gold indoors in 2011. She also had some international success as part of the Great Britain women's 4 x 400 metres relay squad.

Matthew John "Matt" Elias is a retired Welsh athlete who specialised in the 400 metres sprint and 400 metres hurdles. During his international career he represented Great Britain. In 2003 he won a gold medal at the European Championships and at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he finished 5th in the 4 × 400 m relay, He is also a part of Super Schools.

Mark David Hylton is a former British 400 metres sprinter. Hylton won a silver medal in the relay at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Christopher O'Donnell is an Irish track and field athlete competing in sprinting events. He was part of the Irish Mixed 4x400m team who won a gold medal at the 2024 European Athletics Championships. He represented Ireland at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the Mixed 4 × 400 m relay, where he was part of the first ever Irish team to run in an Olympic final, and competed in the same event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He was also part of the team who reached the final of the 2022 and 2023 World Championships. He is the current Irish U20 record holder in the 400m, his personal best of 45.26 seconds sits joint-2nd on the Irish all-time list and he is a 5-time National 400m champion.
