The 2017 Pan American U20 Athletics Championships was the nineteenth edition of the biennial track and field competition for under-20 athletes from the Americas, organised by the Association of Panamerican Athletics. It was held in Trujillo, Peru, at the Mansiche Sports Complex from 21 to 23 July. [1] [2] The United States topped the medal table with 54 medals total including 22 gold.

The stadium was 1541 metres above sea level, thus some athletes' performances benefited from altitude assistance.

The 2000 Ibero-American Championships in Athletics was the ninth edition of the international athletics competition between Ibero-American nations which was held at the Estádio Célio de Barros in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 20 and 21 May. With a total of 308 athletes, the number of competitors was the lowest since 1990. The Spanish team was much smaller than previous delegations as most of the Spaniards chose to focus on the 2000 Sydney Olympics instead. Other national teams used the competition as a chance to gain an Olympic qualifying mark.

Inés Melchor is a Peruvian long-distance runner. She competed in the marathon at the 2012 Summer Olympics, placing 25th with a time of 2:28:54. In September 2014 she placed 8th at the Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:26.48, new Peruvian national record and the South America area record. Melchor also holds Peruvian records for the 5000 and 10,000 metres on the track.

The 2015 South American Championships in Athletics was the 49th edition of the biennial athletics competition between South American nations. The event was held in the Peruvian capital of Lima from 12 to 14 June at the Videna Stadium. It was the eighth time Lima hosted the event, having last done so for the 2009 edition. A total of 44 events were held, evenly divided between the sexes, continuing with the event programme established in 2001.

Javier Arturo Mc Farlane Olazábal is a Peruvian track and field athlete who competes mainly in the 110 metres hurdles and long jump. He holds the Peruvian National Record for 110 metres hurdles with 13.52 seconds.

Gabriela Kimberly García León is a female racewalker from Peru. She won gold medals in the 20 kilometres walk and 35 km walk at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, becoming the first ever Peruvian world medallist and the first Latin American to earn two titles at the same World Athletics Championships. García is the South American record holder for the longer event.

The INAS Global Games is a quadrennial global, international multi-sport event organised by the International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability (INAS). Peru competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, United States, from 15 to 24 July 2022. The Peruvian Athletics Sport Federation had initially entered 8 athletes, but ended up competing with 6 of them due to the withdrawals of Jovana de la Cruz and Soledad Torre.
