Jazz Shukla (born 24 August 1998) is a Canadian track and field athlete who competes over 800 metres. [1]
From Toronto, she attended Northern Secondary School before studying neuroscience at the University of Toronto. She competed at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, participating in the 800m and winning a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay. She won a silver medal at the 2017 Pan American Junior Games in the 800m as well as winning the Canadian 2017 junior national championships over 800 metres. [2] [3]
After a four-year hiatus from competing over 800 metres, Shukla ran a best time of 2:01.98 at the 2022 Speed River Inferno in Guelph, Ontario. [4] At the same event in 2023, she set a new meeting record for the 800 metres, running 2:01.43. [5] She placed third behind Madeleine Kelly and Aurora Rynda at the Canadian national championships in July 2023. [6]
In 2023, she participated in the World Championships in Budapest, and ran a personal best time of 2:00.30 to advance to the semi-finals as the second fastest non-automatic. In the semi-finals, she ran yet another personal best time of 2:00.23 to finish in seventh. [7]
She competed for Canada at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Women's 800 metres. [8] In June 2024, Shukla broke her personal best in the 800 metres by over a second by winning the 2024 Canadian trials. [9]
Cameron Levins is a Canadian long-distance runner. He won the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Levins had the best-Canadian finish ever of fourth in the marathon at the 2022 World Championships, setting a new Canadian record. He is the North American record holder for the marathon and the Canadian record holder for the half marathon.
Lynsey Sharp is a former Scottish track and field athlete who competed in the 800 metres. She is the 2012 European champion and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She won a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Her personal best is 1:57.69, the seventh fastest time over 800m by a British woman, set in the final of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Melissa Bishop-Nriagu is a Canadian runner who specializes in the 800 metres. She competed at the 2012, 2016 Olympics and 2020 Olympics. She won a silver medal at the 2015 World Athletics Championships. Her World Championship medal was a Canadian woman's first-ever medal in the 800 m. Bishop-Nriagu graduated from University of Windsor and was only the third Canadian woman to achieve a time under 2:00 minutes in the 800 m. She is currently the national record holder for this distance.
Kate Van Buskirk is a Canadian Olympian, cross-country and track runner, with 18 years National Team experience. She won bronze for Canada at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 1500 m. She was named as an Athlete Director of Athletics Canada, in August 2019. She continues in this role as of August 2020.
Kate Grace is an American middle-distance runner. A multiple All-American runner for Yale University, she turned professional in 2011. Grace competed for the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics, making it to the final of the 800 metres.
Gabriela Maria DeBues-Stafford is a Canadian middle- and long-distance runner. A two-time Olympian, she placed fifth in the women's 1500 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. DeBues-Stafford holds the NACAC area record over the indoor 5000 metres, which she set in February 2022.
Adelle Tracey is an American-born middle-distance runner competing for Jamaica since 2022, having previously represented Great Britain, where she grew up. Tracey competes primarily in the 800 metres. She placed fourth in the event at the 2018 European Athletics Championships, but claimed a bronze in the North American equivalent, the 2022 NACAC Championships representing her new country, Jamaica. The following day, Tracey won silver for Jamaica in the 1500 metres event in the same championships.
Marco Arop is a Canadian track and field athlete competing in the middle distance events. Arop is the reigning world champion in the 800 m, winning gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championship, after winning bronze the previous year at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. He was the first Canadian win a world championship in the 800 m. Arop was also the 2019 Pan American Games champion in 800 m. Arop represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics and he currently holds a Canadian national record personal best of 1:42.85 in the 800 m.
