Ruth Martin-Jones (also known as Ruth Swinhoe and Ruth Howell, born 28 January 1947) [1] is a former long jumper and heptathlete.
She is from Oswestry and attended the University of Birmingham, taking a [2] French PhD. [3]
By 1972 she was teaching in Beaconsfield. [4]
She competed for Great Britain at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, finishing 28th in the long jump event. She was the first Welsh women to compete at the Olympic Games. [1] At the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, she won a bronze medal competing for Wales. Her jump was equal to silver medalist Brenda Eisler, but Eisler had a better second jump. [1] [5] She also competed at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, and the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. [1] In 1978, Martin-Jones won the first heptathlon event in the world at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. [1]
In 2016, Martin-Jones was inducted into the Welsh Athletics Hall of Fame. [6]
Maureen Caird is an Australian former track athlete, who specialised in the sprint hurdles. At the 1968 Summer Olympics, she became the youngest-ever individual Olympic athletics champion at the time, at age 17, when she won gold in Mexico City.

Olivia "Livvy" Breen is a Welsh Paralympian athlete, who competes for Wales and Great Britain mainly in T38 sprint and F38 long jump events. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics and was selected for the T38 100m and 200m sprint and was also part of the T35-38 women's relay team. She has also represented Wales at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games winning gold in the F38 Long Jump in 2018 and gold in the T37/38 100m in 2022.
Sally Peake is a British track and field athlete who specialises in the pole vault. She has a personal best of 4.40 m for the event, which is a Welsh record. She was the silver medallist in the pole vault at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Hannah Brier is a British sprinter who won the 200 metres event at the 2022 British Indoor Athletics Championships. She competed at the 2014 and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
