Correspondent journalist contributing reports from a remote location

A correspondent or on-the-scene reporter is usually a journalist or commentator for magazines, or more speaking, an agent who contributes reports to a newspaper, or radio or television news, or another type of company, from a remote, often distant, location. A foreign correspondent is stationed in a foreign country. The term "Correspondent" refers to the original practice of filing news reports via postal letter. The largest networks of correspondents belong to ARD (Germany) and BBC (UK).

Al Jazeera English international news channel

Al Jazeera English (AJE) is a Qatari pay television news channel owned and operated by Al Jazeera Media Network, headquartered in Doha, Qatar. It is the first English-language news channel to be headquartered in the Middle East. Instead of being run centrally, news management rotates between broadcasting centres in Doha and London.

Richardson has a wide range of experience as a sports journalist, and has previously worked with: Independent Television News (ITN), Sky News, ITV and Five News.

Sky News is a British news organisation, which operates a TV network of the same name, a radio news service, and distributes news through online channels. It is owned by Sky, a division of Comcast. John Ryley is the Head of Sky News, a role he has held since June 2006. Sky News is currently Royal Television Society News Channel of the Year, the eleventh time it has held the award.

Career

Al Jazeera English

Richardson is a regular presenter on the sports-desk of the flagship daily news-programme, Newshour . Previously, the Al Jazeera English sports coverage was packaged into a separate daily programme and Richardson was a regular on this strand, the now defunct: Sportsworld.

<i>Newshour</i>

Newshour is BBC World Service's flagship international news and current affairs radio programme, which is broadcast twice daily: weekdays at 1400, weekends at 1300 and nightly at 2100 (GMT). Each edition lasts one hour. It consists of news bulletins on the hour and half hour, international interviews and in-depth reports of world news. The BBC World Service considers it one of their most important programmes. In 2011 it was kept as one of four key outlets, despite severe cutbacks. It is also broadcast in the United States on various American Public Media stations. The programme is broadcast live from Broadcasting House in London. It covers the major news of the day, often interviewing heads of state and government ministers.

As well as his studio-based work, Richardson has reported for Al Jazeera from across the globe. His reports have ranged from coverage of the 2008 Olympics from Beijing to reporting on the world's northernmost marathon, at the North Pole.

As Five News's sports correspondent, Richardson covered many of the major events in world sport, including the 2002 Football World Cup in Japan, the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia and the 2004 European Football Championships in Portugal.

ITV News

Before that, Richardson was a sports producer and reporter for ITV News in London, filing and producing stories on domestic and international sporting events. His coverage included the 1999 Rugby World Cup and the 2000 European Football Championships.
