Angelika Volquartz (born 2 September 1946 in Uelzen, Lower Saxony) is a German politician. She was the mayor of Kiel from 2003 to 2009. [1] She was the first Kiel's female mayor.

Alexander von Humboldt is a German sailing ship originally built in 1906 by the German shipyard AG Weser at Bremen as the lightship Reserve Sonderburg. She was operated throughout the North and Baltic Seas until being retired in 1986. Subsequently, she was converted into a three masted barque by the German shipyard Motorwerke Bremerhaven and was re-launched in 1988 as Alexander von Humboldt. In 2011 the ship was taken off sail-training and sent to the Caribbean for the charter business, then she was converted to a botel.
Moshi is one of the seven administrative districts of the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. The district covers an area of 1,300 km2 (500 sq mi). The District is bordered to the north by the Rombo District, to the west by the Hai District, to the east by the Mwanga District and Kenya, and to the south by Simanjiro District of Manyara Region. The district also surrounds Moshi Municipal District on three sides. According to the 2012 census, the population of the Moshi District was 466,737.

Kiel hosted the Olympic sailing competitions for the second time, having previously done so during the 1936 Summer Olympics. The sailing was done on the triangular type Olympic courses.

German submarine U-35 was a Type VIIA U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. She was built three years before the start of World War II. The submarine was laid down on 2 March 1936 by Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft at Kiel, launched on 24 September 1936, and commissioned on 3 November that year under the command of Kapitänleutnant (Kptlt.) Klaus Ewerth. The U-boat was featured on the cover of Life magazine on 16 October 1939, as in the days preceding, it "courteously" rescued all the sailors of a Greek ship that it was about to sink.

Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV), approx. meaning "North German Regatta Club", is a yacht club in Germany. This club is based in Uhlenhorst, Hamburg, Germany; the clubhouse is located at Hamburg's Lake Außenalster. Founded in 1868,it is one of the oldest and largest yacht clubs in Germany, with some 2,000 members.

Alica Stuhlemmer is a German sailor who lives in Altenholz. She represented Germany, along with partner Paul Kohlhoff, in the Nacra 17 class at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, winning the bronze medal. At 22 years old Alica was the youngest sailor to win a medal throughout all sailing disciplines in Tokyo.
