Anja Augustin (born 1974) is a German soprano in opera and concert, oratorio and lied. She appeared in the title roles of musicals, such as My Fair Lady and Evita .

Life

Augustin was born in Munich. During her school years, she received training in piano, flute, singing, ballet and jazz dance. [1] [2] Augustin appeared frequently in school and music school projects, among others in Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne and the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar . [2] She studied voice at the Leopold Mozart Centre in Augsburg from 1994 to 2000, and at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg with Dorothea Chryst. She attended further classes with Edith Wiens for lied singing. She took masterclasses with Margreet Honig  [ nl ], Rudolf Janssen and Brigitte Fassbaender. From 1996 to 2003, Augustin was a member of the Kammerchor Stuttgart conducted by Frieder Bernius, touring through Europe, the U.S., Israel, Asia and Canada. [1] [2] In 2002 she made her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas , where she also played Taumännchen in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel . [1]

In 2003, Augustin was awarded a prize in the Veronica Dunne European Union Singing Competition. [3] She received her first permanent engagement at the Theater Erfurt in 2003. There she appeared as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady , Princess Schafittchen in Wilfried Hiller's Das Traumfresserchen  [ de ], and the title role in Evita , among others. [1] [4] In 2006, she appeared at the Bregenzer Festspiele as Isaure in Offenbach's Barbe-bleue , conducted by Kristjan Järvi, in a production which was recorded live. [5] She sang the soprano solo in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana , performed open air in front of the Staatstheater Mainz on 4 August 2006, conducted by Andreas Ketelhut. [6] She took part in the first recording of Pizzetti's Fedra in a performance by the Montpellier Operain a concert performance on 16 July 2008. [7] In 2018, she appeared as the Owl in the musical Grimm! by Peter Lund and Thomas Zaufke  [ de ]. [8]

Bluebeard French folktale

"Bluebeard" is a French folktale, the most famous surviving version of which was written by Charles Perrault and first published by Barbin in Paris in 1697 in Histoires ou contes du temps passé. The tale tells the story of a wealthy man in the habit of murdering his wives and the attempts of one wife to avoid the fate of her predecessors. Jennifer Johnson Cano is an American operatic mezzo-soprano. Before her college education, she attended St. Pius X High School, graduating in the Class of 2002. While in high school, she was a member of the choir, singing at Mass and state competitions. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Webster University and a Master of Music degree from Rice University where she was a pupil of Kathleen Kaun. In 2008 she won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and in 2009 she won the Young Concert Artists competition and was the recipient of a Sullivan Foundation grant. She was a member of the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

Gretel & Hansel is a 2020 horror film based on the German folklore tale "Hansel and Gretel" by the Brothers Grimm. The film is directed by Oz Perkins, and produced by Fred Berger, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Dan Kagan, with a screenplay by Rob Hayes. Sophia Lillis and Sam Leakey portray the title characters, alongside Charles Babalola, Jessica De Gouw, and Alice Krige. The story follows Gretel and Hansel as they enter a dark wood in order to find work and food, and then stumble upon the home of a witch.
