Annavarapu Lanka is a village in Kollipara mandal of Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is situated on the banks of Krishna River. This village falls under Tenali (Assembly constituency) and is 20 kilometers far from Tenali Town. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach Vijayawada, the second largest city of the state from the village. Amaravati, the state capital is 50 km away from this village.

Agriculture

Farming is the livelihood for 95% of the population either directly or indirectly. The major crops grown includes Banana, Maize, Turmeric, Elephant foot yam, Black gram and Lemon. It is quite common for farmers to lose their crops during Krishna river floods.

Tenali Ramakrishna was an Indian poet, scholar, thinker and a special advisor in the court of the Vijayanagara king Krishnadevaraya, who ruled from 1509 to 1529 CE. He hailed from the village of Tenali and wrote poems in Telugu. He is generally known for the folk tales which focus on his wit. He was one of the Ashtadiggajas, the eight poets, at the court of Krishnadevaraya.

The Bruhat Palayanas were an ancient Indian dynasty based in the modern state of Andhra Pradesh. They ruled Northern Andhra with Pithunda, near Machilipatnam as the capital after the Ikshvakus around the third century. Jaya Varma was the only known Bruhatpalayana ruler. A princess of his family was married to the Andhra Ikshvaku king. His Kingdom included Musala Taluk as far as Gudivada, Kolleru and northern parts of Guntur. He gave the village of Patur in Tenali Taluk to eight Brahmins. After his death the Ananda Gotrikas occupied his territory to the south of the Krishna river and the Salankayanas took his territory north of the river.
