Anthony Barrett (born November 9, 1991) is a former Canadian football wide receiver and kick returner. He formerly played for the Edmonton Huskies of the Canadian Junior Football League.

Early career

Barrett played high school football at Eastglen High School for the Blue Devils, and played for Team North in the 2009 Senior Bowl. [2] [3] He went on to become a wide receiver for the Edmonton Huskies from 2009 to 2013. [2] In his final season with the Huskies, he caught 33 receptions for 536 yards and four touchdowns, ran 14 carries for 136 yards and a touchdown, and added two additional touchdowns from punt returns. [4]

Professional career

Barrett attended training camp with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2012 while he was still on the Huskies, which was the local junior team. He was signed by the Eskimos on April 11, 2014. [4] After spending most of 2014 on the practice roster, Barrett made his CFL debut against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 26, 2014, following a knee injury to Shamawd Chambers. [5] [6] Barrett went on to play six games in the 2014 season, mostly on the special teams. He played in both the West Semi-Finals and West Finals, and recorded a kickoff return for 23 yards in the latter. [2] Barrett was moved to the practice squad prior to the start of the regular season in 2015, [7] but was returned to the active roster prior to the season opener. After the 2011 CIS season, he was ranked as the third best player in the Canadian Football League’s Amateur Scouting Bureau final rankings for players eligible in the 2012 CFL Draft and second by players in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. At the 2012 CFL Evaluation Camp, Chambers ran the fastest 40-yard dash, clocking in at 4.42. He was selected sixth overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2012 CFL Draft.

The 103rd Grey Cup was a Canadian football game that was played on November 29, 2015 between the East Division champion Ottawa Redblacks and the West Division champion Edmonton Eskimos to decide the Canadian Football League (CFL) championship for the 2015 season. The game was played at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shaw Communications was the presenting sponsor of the game; it was the first time in CFL history that the Grey Cup has been sponsored. The Eskimos won the contest 26–20 to claim their 14th Grey Cup championship in franchise history and first since 2005. Mike Reilly was named Most Valuable Player and Shamawd Chambers received the Dick Suderman Trophy as Most Valuable Canadian. It was the Eskimos' first Grey Cup win that did not involve Hugh Campbell in any capacity with the organization since the 1975 Grey Cup. This was Edmonton's last Grey Cup under the "Eskimos" name before the team name was changed to the Edmonton Elks in 2020.
