Niagara Falls is a city in Niagara County,New York,United States. As of the 2020 census,the city had a total population of 48,671. It is adjacent to the Niagara River,across from the city of Niagara Falls,Ontario,and named after the famed Niagara Falls which they share. The city is within the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area and the Western New York region.
Brian Michael Higgins is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 26th congressional district,serving since 2005. The district,numbered as the 27th district from 2005 to 2013 but as the 26th since 2013,includes Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Following the 2022 redistricting process,the district now stretches up to Lake Ontario,taking in all or parts of seven additional towns in Niagara County. Democrat Eliot Spitzer,the New York Attorney General,won the election over former Republican state Assembly minority leader John Faso. As of 2023,this is the last time the Governor’s office in New York changed partisan control.

After former City Comptroller Anthony Nanula resigned in 2003 to become deputy state comptroller,he became the acting city comptroller. After losing the Democratic Primary,he was elected as a Republican in the 2003 election. In January 2007,he applied to the New York State Legislature for appointment to an unexpired term as New York State Comptroller. He testified before the Assembly Ways and Means Committee,the Senate Finance Committee,the Comptroller Search Committee on Jan. 24,2007. He was not on the list of three finalists selected by the search committee for consideration by the full Legislature.
Edward John Anthony Rutkowski is a former American football player,and a former politician in Buffalo,New York. Rutkowski was a noted college and professional American football player. A wide receiver,he was an American Football League All-Star in 1965,playing for the AFL's Buffalo Bills as a receiver,defensive back,punt and kickoff return man and backup quarterback from 1963 to 1968. In a famous Topps football card mixup,Rutkowski was shown on two Buffalo Bills' football cards,his own,and mistakenly on the card for Ray Abruzzese. Rutkowski closed out his Pro Football career by playing seven games as a backup quarterback with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 1969. From 1972-78 and again in 1990,Rutkowski served as a color commentator on the Bills' radio broadcasts. In 1979,he became the County Executive of Erie County,New York,succeeding Edward Regan,who stepped down to become New York State Comptroller. Rutkowski was elected to full terms in 1979 and 1983,following his one year unexpired term,for a total of nine years in office. In 1987,Rutkowski was defeated for reelection by Assemblyman Dennis Gorski.
Michael C. Finnegan is the managing director of investment banking for JPMorgan Chase. Finnegan is best known as the architect of former Governor George Pataki's ascendancy to power from Mayor of Peekskill to Governor of New York. Finnegan and Pataki became friends while practicing law in Peekskill and Finnegan would go on to manage Pataki's campaigns for Mayor,State Assembly,State Senate,and the Governorship. Finnegan was then appointed Chief Counsel to the Governor in 1995.
The Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) was a group of members of the New York State Senate from the Democratic Party who were elected as Democrats but formed a coalition to give the Republicans the majority in the chamber,and attempted to create an independent caucus or a third caucus in the New York State Senate or a third party in the State of New York and prevent the Republican Party from gerrymandering the state senate districts of the 8 IDC members. At the time of its dissolution,the IDC included eight members:Jeffrey D. Klein,Marisol Alcantara,Tony Avella,David Carlucci,Jesse Hamilton,Jose Peralta,Diane Savino,and David Valesky.
