Anu Francis (born 15 September 1995) is an Australian para-triathlete. She competed at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. [1]
Francis was born on 15 September 1995. [2] In 2017, she was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Dopa-Responsive Dystonia . [3] [4] Her disability has a variety of impairments, including hypertonia, involuntary muscle movements and gait abnormalities. [5] In 2017, she graduated with Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) at University of Adelaide. [3] Due to her disability, she was denied undertaking a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. [3] She completed a double bachelor's degree of Secondary and Special Education at Flinders University in 2022. [3] In 2024, she is undertaking a Bachelor of Exercise Science at Flinders University. Francis participated in para-badminton and para-rowing at a national level and just missed out on being selected for 2020 Tokyo Paralympics rowing team. Francis is classified as PTS2 triathlete. Her first triathlon was at the National Championships in 2021. Since 2022, she has regularly finished in the top two in major international Women's PTS2 events. Francis won the Paris Paralympics test event in 2023 and is ranked number two leading into the 2024 Paris Paralympics. [6] At the 2024 Summer Paralympics, she finished fourth in the Women's PTS2. [7]
Her coach is Chris Rawling, a former professional triathlete and lecturer at Flinders University. [5]
Jessica Tuomela is a Canadian paralympic competitive swimmer and para triathlete who was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She won silver in the 50-metre freestyle at the 2000 Summer Paralympics and bronze in the Women's PTVI Paratriathlon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Amanda Reid is an Australian Paralympic swimmer, cyclist and snowboarder. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in swimming. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, she won a silver medal in the Women's 500 m Time Trial C1–3 and at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics a gold medal in the 500 m Time Trial C1–3. At the 2024 Paris Paralympics, she won a gold medal in the 500 m Time Trial C1–3.
Kathleen Margaret "Katie" Kelly is an Australian paratriathlete, who has a degenerative disease known as Usher syndrome. Kelly began competing in the PT5 paratriathlon classification in February 2015 when her condition deteriorated to a legally blind state. She has just 30 per cent of her vision. With her guide Michellie Jones, Kelly won gold medals at the 2015 and 2017 ITU World Championships and 2016 Rio Paralympics. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
Katja Dedekind is an Australian Paralympic vision-impaired swimmer and goalball player. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games and two bronze medals at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
