Aharon "Ari" Rosenfeld is an Israeli officer who was interrogated and arrested in November 2024 on suspicion of security offenses during the Gaza war.
Rosenfeld is a native of Bnei Brak, Israel. [2]
He served in the Military Intelligence Directorate as a non-commissioned officer. [3]
He sent classified information to Eli Feldstein in April 2024 via Telegram. [4] He also illegally obtained information, which the Israeli Military Censor did not allow for publication in Israel, that was ultimately published by the German newspaper Bild in an attempt to "sway" public opinion. [5]
Rosenfeld was arrested in October 2024 [6] and was charged with "transferring classified information", "theft by an authorized person" and obstructing justice in November 2024. [7]
A judge for the Tel Aviv District Court ruled on 3 December 2024 that Rosenfeld was to be released on house arrest, [8] though his release was overruled on appeal by High Court Justice Alex Stein, who ruled in early December 2024 that he was to remain under arrest, reasoning that he still had the capability to pass on classified information. [4]
An imposed gag order was partially lifted on 22 December 2024, at Rosenfeld's request, though his "rank, position and areas of activity" were still under gag order. [3] The judge in the case, Ala’a Masarwa, ruled that a "balance" could be struck, in response to the state opposing the release of any information related to Rosenfeld. [1]
Rosenfeld's attorney, Uri Corb, presented a letter during a January "court hearing" from Yuli Edelstein, who was the Knesset's head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, in which Edelstein confirmed from Shin Bet head Ronen Bar that Rosenfeld's release would not be a security risk. [9]
The following month, the office of the State Attorney changed its position against Rosenfeld's release [6] and he was released to house arrest on 6 February 2025. [10] His house arrest during the day was cancelled in July 2025. [11]
