Sayyid Asa'ad bin Tariq Al Said (Arabic : أسعد بن طارق آل سعيد; born 20 June 1954) is a member of the Omani royal family and the Deputy Prime Minister for Relations and International Cooperation Affairs.
Asa'ad is the son of Sayyid Tariq bin Taimur bin Faisal Al Said and his second wife, Sayyida Shawana bint Hamud bin Ahmad Al Busaidiyah. [1] His half brothers include Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq, the Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs.
He was educated at Al Saidiya School in Muscat and Millfield School in Somerset. He earned a bachelor's degree from the military school at King's College, London in 1986[ citation needed ] and then graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. [2]
In 1978, he married Sayyida Na'emah bint Badr Al Busaidiyah, the daughter of Sayyid Badr bin Saud Al Busaidi. [1]
Asa'ad has commanded several divisions of the armed forces including being the Brigadier General of the country's Armored Corps in the 1990s. [2] [3]
He owns the Asad Investment Company which controls all of his investments and is said to control more than 1 billion USD in worldwide assets. [2]
In 2002, Asa'ad was appointed a special representative of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. As such, he headed governmental delegations to foreign countries, received foreign officials, and made public appearances on behalf of the Sultan. [4]
In 2017, he was appointed the Deputy Prime Minister for Relations and International Cooperation Affairs. [5] [6] This was widely seen as making him the frontrunner to succeed his cousin, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, but the Sultan chose Asa'ad's brother, Haitham, as his successor. [7] [8]

Qaboos bin Said Al Said was Sultan of Oman from 23 July 1970 until his death in 2020. A fifteenth-generation descendant of the founder of the House of Al Said, he was the longest-serving leader in the Middle East and Arab world at the time of his death, having ruled for almost half a century.
Faisal bin Turki, GCIE, historic spelling Fessul bin Turkee, ruled, from 4 June 1888 to 4 October 1913 as Sultan of Muscat and Oman, as the state of Oman was known at the time. He succeeded his father Turki bin Said as Sultan. Upon his death in 1913, he was succeeded by his eldest son Taimur bin Faisal.
Sultan Taimur bin Faisal bin Turki Al Said was the Sultan of Muscat and Oman from 5 October 1913 to 10 February 1932.
Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harab Al Busaidi was an Omani politician. He served in the government for over 40 years including as the Minister of the Interior and the Minister Responsible For Defence.
Sayyida Mazoon bint Ahmad bin Ali Al Mashani was a member of the Omani royal family. She was the second wife of Sultan Said bin Taimur and the mother of Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
The House of Al Bu Said, is the current ruling royal family of Oman, and former ruling house of the Omani Empire (1744–1856), Sultanate of Muscat and Oman (1856–1970) and the Sultanate of Zanzibar (1856–1964). It was founded by Ahmad bin Said Al Busaidi in 1744 and is currently headed by Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.

The succession to the Omani throne constitutes those individuals eligible to succeed to the throne of the Sultanate of Oman.
