Ashish Kumar (born 1990 [1] ) is an Indian gymnast from Allahabad, who won India's first-ever medals in gymnastics, in October 2010 at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and became the most successful Indian gymnast in Commonwealth Games history, by winning bronze and silver medals in different gymnastic events. Competitive history

2006

Kumar first participated at the 2006 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships staged in Surat, India. He won the bronze medal on the Floor Exercise, tied with Syrian gymnast Fadi Bahlawan. This was India's first major international medal in the history of artistic gymnastics. Kumar also competed at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. He finished 18th in the individual all-around, the only final he qualified for.

2010

At the 2010 Commonwealth Games he first won a bronze medal in the floor exercise and later a silver medal on vault, where the gold went to Luke Folwell of England, while Ian Galvan of Canada won the bronze medal. [4] At the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, Kumar won the bronze medal in the floor exercise. As of 2017, this remains India's only medal in gymnastics at the Asian Games.

2011

At the South Central Asian Gymnastics Championships in Dhaka in December 2011 Kumar won four gold medals, in the individual all-around, floor exercise, vault and high bar events. [5]

2014

Following a turbulent selection process which caused uncertainty about the participation of the Indian team in the Gymnastics event at the 2014 Asian Games, Kumar failed to qualify to the floor finals at the event. He finished 12th in the individual all-around.

India hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games which were held in Delhi from 3 to 14 October 2010. India won 101 medals in total, including 38 Gold medals, enabling it to finish the Games at second position behind Australia. For the first time in the history of the Games, India won a medal in Gymnastics, where Ashish Kumar won a Silver and a Bronze. Max Whitlock British artistic gymnast

Max Antony Whitlock is a British artistic gymnast. He is a six-time Olympic medalist, winning three golds and three bronzes, and a five time world medalist on the pommel horse with three gold and two silvers. He became Britain's first ever Olympic gold medalist in artistic gymnastics when he won both the men's floor and pommel horse exercises at the 2016 Summer Olympics. With fourteen medals and six titles in Olympic and world championships, Whitlock is the most successful gymnast in his nation's history, and the most successful pommel horse worker in gymnastics history; he has 8 global medals in the apparatus, including 5 global gold medals.

Kristian Thomas British artistic gymnast

Kristian James Thomas is a British former artistic gymnast. A long-standing member of both the England and Great Britain men's teams, he was a member of the British team that won gold in the 2012 European Championships team event, and a historic bronze in the same event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He won his first global individual medal in the 2013 World Championships, a bronze in vault; it was also the first global medal ever won in vault by a British male gymnast. In 2015 he won his first major international title, gold in the floor exercise at the 2015 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Phan Thị Hà Thanh is a former Vietnamese artistic gymnast from Haiphong and a two-time Olympian. She became the first gymnast to win a world medal for Vietnam, capturing the bronze on vault at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Gymnastics in India

Gymnastics came of age in India, when at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Ashish Kumar won the first-ever medal in gymnastics, he won a bronze medal. However, soon after the win, the President of the Gymnastics Federation of India asked Ashish's Chief Coach from the Soviet Union, Vladimir Chertkov: "Is this all that you can deliver, a bronze?" The comment was widely reported in the press.

Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic and 2021 World champion on the vault. Andrade is the first Brazilian female gymnast to medal at an Olympic Games, and she is only the second Brazilian woman to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Artem Olegovich Dolgopyat is an Israeli artistic gymnast. He is the 2020 Olympic champion on floor exercise. He also won two silver medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships on the floor exercise, and is the 2020 European champion of that exercise.

Georgia Godwin is an Australian artistic gymnast. She is the 2018 Commonwealth Games all-around silver medalist and the team and uneven bars bronze medalist. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics and was the third reserve for the all-around final. She is also a two-time World Cup silver medalist.

Carlos Yulo Filipino artistic gymnast

Carlos Edriel Yulo is a Filipino artistic gymnast who has won multiple medals at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. He is the first Filipino and the first male Southeast Asian gymnast to win in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships with his floor exercise bronze medal finish in 2018, and the first ever gold medal for the Philippines in 2019 on the same apparatus. This performance also qualified him to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Yeo Seo-jeong is a South Korean artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist and the 2018 Asian Games champion on vault. She is the first South Korean female gymnast to win an Olympic medal.

Nazar Chepurnyi Ukrainian artistic gymnast

Nazar Vyacheslavovich Chepurnyi is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast. He participated in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics and the 2019 Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
