Ashton Common is a hamlet in Wiltshire, England, to the east of Trowbridge. The hamlet lies on Common Hill, a little south of the A350 road, within the civil parish of Steeple Ashton.

Sir Robert Murray Helpmann CBE was an Australian ballet dancer, actor, director, and choreographer. After early work in Australia he moved to Britain in 1932, where he joined the Vic-Wells Ballet under its creator, Ninette de Valois. He became one of the company's leading men, partnering Alicia Markova and later Margot Fonteyn. When Frederick Ashton, the company's chief choreographer, was called up for military service in the Second World War, Helpmann took over from him while continuing as a principal dancer.

According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 743, about six miles south-west of Evesham. The small village of Ashton is located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) southwest of Downtown Ottawa, Ontario, at the intersection of Ashton Station Road and Flewellyn Road. Ashton Station Road runs through the centre of the community, and serves as the south-western boundary line for the City of Ottawa, thus making the eastern portion of the hamlet part of Ottawa, and the western portion part of Lanark County. The Bontnewydd palaeolithic site, also known in its unmutated form as Pontnewydd, is an archaeological site near St Asaph, Denbighshire, Wales. It is one of only three sites in Britain to have produced fossils of ancient species of humans and the only one with fossils of a classic Neanderthal. The Manor of Ashton was a historic manor in Devonshire, England, of which the manor house was called Ashton House, in the parish of Ashton, situated about 6 miles south-west of Exeter, on the western slopes of the Haldon Hills. It was long the seat of the Chudleigh family, from about 1320 to 1745, which originated at the manor of Chudleigh, 3 miles south of Ashton, and for which was created the Chudleigh baronetcy in 1622. It was abandoned by Sir George Chudleigh, 4th Baronet who in 1735 built himself nearby a grand mansion named Haldon House, on the east side of the Haldon Hills, influenced by Buckingham House in London, and moved his residence there.
