ACUI (Association of College Unions International) is one of the oldest associations in North American higher education, and dates to 1914. [1] [ non-primary source needed ] This association is the largest organization that represents student activity centers and student unions in the United States. As of 2016, [update] the organization has 522 member institutions in ten countries. [1]
Although primarily a United States organization, with university and college campus organizations as members in all 50 US states, ACUI also has affiliated student unions in Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Guam, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Qatar, and the United Kingdom. [2]
ACUI's educational programs including seminars, [3] distance learning support, [4] an annual conference, [5] the Women's Leadership Institute, [3] and the Institute for Leadership Education and Development (I-Lead). [6]
ACUI is perhaps best known for organizing intercollegiate competitions in various non-contact sports and other activities, on a campus-team basis. These include nine-ball pool, table tennis, clay target shooting, air hockey, poetry slam, and formerly college bowl-style trivia competition. [6]
Presently titled the ACUI Collegiate Nine-ball National Championship, the organization's pool tournament was inaugurated in 1937, has featured separate men's and women's divisions since 1939, and is supported by both the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) and the Billiards Education Foundation (BEF). [7] The annual summer event's champions are listed in the BCA's Billiards: The Official Rules and Records Book.
Nine-ball is a discipline of the cue sport pool. The game's origins are traceable to the 1920s in the United States. It is played on a rectangular billiard table with pockets at each of the four corners and in the middle of each long side. Using a cue stick, players must strike the white cue ball to pocket nine colored billiard balls, hitting them in ascending numerical order. An individual game is won by the player pocketing the 9-ball. Matches are usually played as a race to a set number of racks, with the player who reaches the set number winning the match.
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is a public university in Ewing Township, New Jersey. It is part of New Jersey's public system of higher education. Established in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School, TCNJ was the first normal school, or teaching college, in the state of New Jersey and the fifth in the United States. It was originally located in Trenton proper and moved to its present location in adjacent Ewing Township during the early to mid-1930s. Since its inception, TCNJ has undergone several name changes, the most recent being the 1996 change from Trenton State College to its current name.
The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) is the governing body for cue sports in the United States and Canada, and the regional member organization of the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA). It was established under this name in 1948 as a non-profit trade organization in order to promote the sport and organize its players via tournaments at various levels. The BCA is headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado. The voting members of the organization are mostly equipment manufacturers.
Alfred State College is a public college in Alfred, New York, United States. It is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The college, formerly the Technical College at Alfred, offers bachelor's and associate degree programs. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and is a member of the Rochester Area Colleges consortium.

Pool is the name given to a series of cue sports played on a billiard table. The table has six pockets along the rails, into which balls are shot. Of the many different pool games, the most popular include: eight-ball, blackball, nine-ball, ten-ball, seven-ball, straight pool, one-pocket, and bank pool. Eight-ball is the most frequently played discipline of pool, and it is often thought of as synonymous with "pool".
York College of Pennsylvania is a private college in Spring Garden Township, Pennsylvania. Georgia Southern University–Armstrong Campus, formerly Armstrong State University, is one of three campuses of Georgia Southern University, a public university in the U.S. state of Georgia. Occupying a 268-acre (1.08 km2) area on the residential southside of Savannah, Georgia, the school became one of three campuses of Georgia Southern University in 2018. The university's flagship campus is in Statesboro, 50 miles (80 km) west of Savannah. The World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) is the international governing body for pool. It was formed in 1987, and was initially headed by a provisional board of directors consisting of representatives from Australia, Americas, Africa, and Europe. As of 2023, the WPA president is Ishaun Singh of South Africa. It is an associate of the World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS), the international umbrella organization that encompasses the major cue sports. WPA is headquartered in Gauteng, South Africa.
The Cebu Institute of Technology – University is an autonomous, private, non-sectarian academic institution in Cebu City, Philippines. The university provides basic and higher education with a foundation in general and technological education. The university was known simply as Cebu Institute of Technology until 2010 when it has attained university status.

Student governments in the United States exist in both secondary and higher education. At the collegiate level, the most common name is Student Government, according to the American Student Government Association's database of all student governments throughout the United States. The next most common name is the student government association. Other names are student senate, associated students, or less commonly students' union. There was one instance of a government of the student body, at Iowa State University. At Yale University, the undergraduate student government is known as the Yale College Council. High school student governments usually are known as Student Council.
The Valley National 8-Ball League Association (VNEA) is one of the world's largest amateur pool leagues. As of 2020, there are nearly 100,000 individual members in some 1,400 weekly local leagues playing in over 10,000 pool halls, bars and other venues in around 400 different cities, towns and suburbs in 36 U.S. states, and abroad.
The Future Business Leaders of America, or FBLA, is an American career and technical student organization (CTSO) headquartered in Reston, Virginia. Established in 1940, FBLA is a non-profit organization of high school, middle school, and college students, as well as professional members, who primarily help students transition to the business world. FBLA is one of the largest student organizations in the United States, with more than 200,000 members, and the largest career student organization in the world. Local FBLA chapters are often connected to their school's business education department, and most advisers are business education teachers.
The ACUI Collegiate Pocket Billiards National Championship, in recent years known more specifically as the ACUI Collegiate Nine-ball National Championship, was an amateur United States annual pool competition for university and college students, organized by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI). It was founded in 1937, and was one of ACUI's longest-running programs. In June 2020, the ACUI made the decision to discontinue their National Collegiate Pocket Billiards program.
