Mahishasura Buffalo-demon in Hinduism

Mahishasura was a buffalo Asura in Hinduism. He is known among Hindus of most sects as a deceitful demon who pursued his evil ways by shape-shifting. Mahishasura was the son of Rambha, and the great-grandson of Brahmarshi Kashyapa. He was ultimately killed by Goddess Durga - after which She gained the epithet Mahishasuramardini. The Navaratri festival eulogizes this battle between Mahishasura and Durga, culminating in Vijaya Dasami, a celebration of his ultimate defeat. This story of the "triumph of Good over Evil" carries profound symbolism in Hinduism, particularly Shaktism, and is both narrated as well as reenacted from the Devi Mahatmya at many South- and Southeast Asian Hindu temples. The story is also told in the Sikh text Chandi di Var, also called Var Durga Di, which many in Sikh tradition believe was included in the Dasam Granth by Guru Gobind Singh.

Madikeri Dasara

Madikeri Dasara is the Dasara festival is celebrated in the city of Madikeri in the Indian State of Karnataka. It has a history of over a hundred years. Madikeri Dasara is a ten-day celebration, which is beautified by 4 Karagas and 10 Mantapas depicting killing of Asuras (demons) by Suras (God/Goddess). Preparation for Madikeri dasara starts before 3 months. Most of the money for this celebration is collected from the people of Kodagu. Each of these 10 Mantapa committee has 50 to 100 members. A Mantapa comprises idols of height 8 to 15 feet, which is set up at the front of a lighting board. The cost of building a Mantapa will be 10 to 20 Lakhs.

Dasara Bullodu is a 1971 Telugu-language romance film, produced and directed by V. B. Rajendra Prasad under his Jagapathi Art Pictures. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Vanisri, Chandrakala and music composed by K. V. Mahadevan. It is the first film of V. B. Rajendra Prasad as a director. The film was remade in Hindi as Raaste Pyar Ke (1982) under the same banner and director.
