Field Hockey at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Olympic Hockey Centre located within the Helliniko Olympic Complex. The competitions for both men and women was split into two groups with the top two teams after the preliminary rounds progressing through to the semi-finals.

The 1972 Federation Cup was the tenth edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. 31 nations participated in the tournament, which was held at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, South Africa from 20–25 March. South Africa defeated Great Britain in the final, in what was the first final not featuring United States or Australia, giving South Africa their first title. South Africa became the first team other than United States or Australia to win the Fed Cup.

The finals marked Martina Navratilova's first return to Czechoslovakia since her defection to the United States in 1975.

The tournament was held at Hollyburn Country Club in Vancouver, Canada, from 26 July – 2 August. West Germany won their first title, defeating the United States in the final. This was their first victory after four previous final appearances.

Jane Claxton Australian field hockey player

Jane Claxton is an Australian field hockey player for Australia. Claxton was a member of the Australia women's national field hockey team that were defeated by the Netherlands women's national field hockey team in the final of the 2014 Women's Hockey World Cup, a Gold Medal winner at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and member of the team that went to the 2016 Summer Olympics. She was also named captain of the Hockeyroos in November 2016 for the Tans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand.
