Political divisions of Spain

The political division of the Kingdom of Spain is defined in Part VIII of the Spanish constitution of 1978, which establishes three levels of territorial organization: municipalities, provinces and autonomous communities, the first group constituting the subdivisions of the second, and the second group constituting the subdivisions of the last. 1980 Ispaster attack

The 1980 Ispaster attack was a gun and grenade attack by the Basque separatist organisation ETA which occurred on 1 February 1980 near the Basque town of Ispaster. The targets were a convoy of civil guards who were escorting workers and weapons from the nearby Esperanza y Cia Arms factory to Bilbao. A total of six civil guards were killed, while two ETA members were killed by hand grenades that they had thrown. The attack was the deadliest of 1980, the year when ETA killed more people than any other.

Micaela Portilla (1922–2005) was a Spanish anthropologist. She was born in Vitoria in July 1922 and died on October 8, 2005. She was one of the most important Basque anthropologists and historians of the twentieth century, having led many studies and other works in these fields through more sensitive and comprehensive methodological work. She has virtually created a school of followers in the province of Álava.

Comarcas of the Basque Country

The autonomous Community of the Basque Country within Spain contains several comarcas or eskualdeak in the Basque language, referring to local districts, grouped into its three long-established provinces.

1979 Spanish local elections

The 1979 Spanish local elections were held on Tuesday, 3 April 1979, to elect all 67,505 councillors in the 7,870 municipalities of Spain and all 1,152 seats in 43 provincial deputations. The elections were held simultaneously with local elections in the four foral deputations of the Basque Country and Navarre and the ten island councils in the Balearic and Canary Islands.

2023 Spanish local elections Municipal elections in Spain

The 2023 Spanish local elections will be held on Sunday, 28 May 2023, to elect all councillors in the municipalities of Spain and all 1,038 seats in 38 provincial deputations. The elections will be held simultaneously with regional elections in at least seven autonomous communities, as well as local elections in the three foral deputations of the Basque Country, the eleven island councils in the Balearic and Canary Islands.
