Aziz Lahbabi (born 3 February 1991, in Khenifra) is a Moroccan long-distance runner. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's 5000 metres, finishing 31st overall in Round 1, failing to qualify for the final. [1]
He won his first international medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Athletics, taking third place in the 5000 metres. He placed 13th at the senior race for the 2011 African Cross Country Championships, which was enough for a team bronze medal. He set a 5000 m best of 13:13.68 minutes that June, but was caught doping shortly afterwards, receiving a six-month ban for methylhexanamine. [2]
Lahbabi was a double medallist at the 2013 Mediterranean Games, taking 5000 m bronze and a 10,000 metres silver medal. He won his national championship in the 5000 m and was selected for the 2013 World Championships in Athletics, where he ran in the heats only. [2] He won the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon in 2014 with a significant personal best of 59:25 minutes – a Moroccan record and the fastest by a non-East African runner. [3]
Meseret Defar Tola is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes chiefly in the 3000 metres and 5000 metres events. She has won medals at top-tier international competitions including Olympic and World Championship gold medals over 5000 metres. She broke the world record in the event in 2006, broke it again in 2007 and held it until 2008, when fellow Ethiopian Tirunesh Dibaba beat her time.
Zersenay Tadese Habtesilase is a retired Eritrean long-distance track and road running athlete. He held the men's half marathon world record from 2010 to 2018. His bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2004 Athens Olympics made him the first ever Eritrean Olympic medallist, and his 20-km title at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships also made him the country's first athlete to win at a world championship event. He does not use a sprint finish to win races; his strategy relies on a combination of efficient running and fast pace setting.
Hailu Mekonnen is an Ethiopian runner, who specializes in the 5000 metres and cross-country running.
Yonas Andebrhan Kifle is an Eritrean runner who specializes in the 10,000 metres, the marathon and cross-country running. He has represented Eritrea at the Olympics on four occasions; in 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012. He has also competed at World Championship-level in cross country, road running, and on the track indoors and outdoors.
Abreham Cherkos Feleke is an Ethiopian professional long-distance runner. A former track specialist, he now competes in road running events including the marathon.
Kayoko Fukushi is a Japanese long-distance runner, who specializes in the 5000, 10,000 metres and marathon. Fukushi represented Japan at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the bronze medallist in the marathon at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. She holds a marathon best of 2:22:17 hours.
Sabrina Mockenhaupt is a German long-distance runner who specialises in track events and the marathon. She is a two-time winner of the Cologne Marathon and has also won the Frankfurt Marathon and the Berlin Half Marathon. She represented Germany at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics and was the 3000 metres bronze medallist at the 2005 European Indoor Championships. She has a marathon best of 2:26:21, set at the 2010 Berlin Marathon.

The Roma–Ostia Half Marathon is an annual half marathon road running event which takes place in early March in Rome, Italy. The course begins in the EUR district of the city and follows a direct southeasterly route to the finish point near the beaches of Ostia. It is Italy's most popular half marathon, with a record 12,000 entries and 9,485 finishers in 2011.

Dino Sefir Kemal is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He was one of three members of the Ethiopian team who competed in the marathon at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. He qualified with a time of 2:04:50 at the 2012 Dubai Marathon, one of the top five personal records among the marathon entrants at the 2012 Olympics. He is coached by Renato Canova.

Solomon Kirwa Yego is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes mainly in road running competitions. His half marathon best of 58:44 minutes makes him the ninth fastest man ever for the distance. Yego has won the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon and the Udine Half Marathon. He represented Kenya at the 2014 African Cross Country Championships and won a team gold medal.
