Intercollegiate sports

The SDSU Aztecs intercollegiate water polo, swimming and diving teams are based at the Aztec Aquaplex. [2]

Facilities

Constructed on the west side of campus, the site occupies a total of 125,000 square feet (11,600 m2) of usable space. [1] [2] The facility is situated between Tony Gwynn Stadium, the SDSU Softball Stadium, the Aztec Tennis Center, three football practice fields and the SDSU Sports Deck. [2] The facility is also just behind the Aztec Athletics Center, which allows student-athletes easy access to some of the top training personnel and weightlifting facilities on the West Coast. In addition, Viejas Arena is within walking distance. [2]

Viejas Arena Arena in California, United States

Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl, located on the San Diego State University (SDSU) campus in San Diego, California, is the home of the San Diego State Aztecs men's basketball and women's basketball teams. Viejas Arena opened its doors to the campus and community in July 1997 and seats 12,414 for basketball and up to 12,845 for concerts. The facility also hosts SDSU's commencement ceremonies. Previously, the Aztecs played at Peterson Gymnasium also on the SDSU campus. However, the men's basketball team played most of their home games at the San Diego Sports Arena prior to Viejas Arena's construction.

The San Diego State Aztecs football team represents San Diego State University in the sport of American football. The Aztecs compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the West Division of the Mountain West Conference (MW). Love Library underwent a major expansion to improve Library & Information Access for students institution-wide with construction of the Manchester Hall addition including a spectacular glass enclosed atrium to serve as the new entrance gateway for the University Library. The history of San Diego State University began in the late 19th century with the establishment of a normal school in San Diego, California. Founded on March 13, 1897, the school opened on November 1, 1898 with a class of 135 students. By 1921, the school had become San Diego State Teachers College, allowing it to grant certificates and degrees. Due to the increased student enrollment, the college was relocated to its current location at the east side of Mission Valley, with classes beginning in February 1931. The government works programs during the Great Depression assisted in construction of numerous buildings on the new campus.
