Azucena is a 2000 Filipino drama film directed by Carlos Siguion-Reyna. The film stars Ricky Davao, Glydel Mercado, Dante Rivero and Alessandra de Rossi on her theatrical debut. This also marks Anjanette Abayari's final theatrical appearance, albeit on a special participation role. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Lily (Alessandra) lives with her father Tomas (Ricky) and stepmother (Glydel). Her parents sell Lily's aging dog, whom she calls her best friend, to Teban (Dante) for dog meat and asocena . Lily, however, convinces Teban to return her dog and then begins a friendship with him. This causes the ire of her friends and family. Teban becomes her surrogate father, who supports her for her needs.

Ang Lalaki sa Buhay ni Selya is a controversial 1998 Filipino drama film written by Bibeth Orteza and directed by her husband, Carlos Siguion-Reyna. The film stars Rosanna Roces, Ricky Davao, and Gardo Versoza. In the film, a woman confronts her own prejudice among the community of intolerant, bigoted, and homophobic gossipers when she chooses between two men: a high school principal who is a closeted gay man and a man who wants more commitment with her. This film is the second and last film of Rosanna Roces with Reyna Films and one of the films directed by Carlos Siguion-Reyna that features taboo topics in Philippine cinema.
Asocena is a Filipino dish primarily consisting of dog meat. The term asocena was first used in the 1980s and became popular when a film entitled Azucena, written by Enrique Ramos and directed by Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, was screened in 2000. The dish's name is a compound word, from aso, the Filipino word for "dog" and Spanish word cena, which means "dinner" or "an evening meal", the literal translation being "dog-meal" or "a meal of dog meat". It may also be a play on the Spanish name Azucena, which is also used to describe a variety of fragrant, white rice.
