B.P.R.D.: Garden of Souls is the seventh trade paperback collection in the B.P.R.D. series.
B.P.R.D.: Garden of Souls was originally published as a five-issue B.P.R.D. comic book mini-series, written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi with art by Guy Davis and published by Dark Horse Comics. [1] Each issue featured a cover by Guy Davis.
The ageless mummy, Panya, is introduced, the team continues to mourn the loss of Roger, and Abe Sapien receives a strange map that may hold clues to his past life as Dr. Langdon Everett Caul. [2]
Abe and Ben Daimio travel to Balikpapan, Indonesia to search for the mysterious sender of Abe's cigar case. Liz Sherman continues to have apocalyptic visions, and begins to question whether or not she can trust her teammates. Johann Kraus discovers a startling secret about a Nazi war criminal known as The Crimson Lotus. [3]
Abe is drawn to a small island where he discovers the members of Langdon Caul's Oannes Society are still alive. They have been maintaining their bodies in modified Victorian diving suits, but plan to transfer their consciousnesses to newly grown bodies in the near future. Johann confides in Liz and Kate his suspicions regarding a familial connection between Ben and The Crimson Lotus. [4]
Abe discovers the living mummy, Panya, is being held by Caul's former friends. She relates her experience of living in Victorian England and being kidnapped by the Oannes Society (They believe her to be the sea goddess Naunet). The Oannes society reveal their plan the create a massive tsunami by triggering several explosives across the East Pacific. By killing millions of people, they will harvest the power of their departed souls. [5]
Abe is able to foil the plans of the Oannes Society by destroying the artificial bodies they have grown to contain the souls of their intended victims. Ben manages to locate and disarm the bombs planted by the society. Panya is freed from her captors and relocated to the B.P.R.D. [6]

Hellboy is a fictional superhero created by writer-artist Mike Mignola. The character first appeared in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2, and has since appeared in various eponymous miniseries, one-shots and intercompany crossovers. The character has been adapted into three live-action feature films. Two starring Ron Perlman in 2004 and 2008 in the title role, and one in 2019 which starred David Harbour, as well as two straight-to-DVD animated films, and three video games – Asylum Seeker, The Science of Evil, and as a playable character in Injustice 2.
The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense is a fictional organization in the comic book work of Mike Mignola, founded by the United States and United Kingdom governments, charged with researching the occult, paranormal and supernatural, and defending against their dangers. The B.P.R.D. originally appeared in the Hellboy comics and has since been a major part of its expanded universe.
Abraham Sapien, born Langdon Everett Caul, is a fictional character introduced in the comic book series Hellboy, created by Mike Mignola. He takes his name from "Ichthyo sapien", the fanciful species designation chosen for him by his colleagues in the 19th-century Oannes Club, and from Abraham "Abe" Lincoln, on whose assassination date the Oannes Club abandoned Abe's body, leaving only a cryptic note as explanation, in a suspended animation tank beneath a Washington D.C. hospital. He is occasionally referred to as an "amphibious man."
Mike Mignola is an American comic book artist and writer best known for creating Hellboy for Dark Horse Comics, part of a shared universe of titles including B.P.R.D., Abe Sapien, Lobster Johnson, and various spin-offs. He has also created other supernatural and paranormal themed titles for Dark Horse including Baltimore, Joe Golem, and The Amazing Screw-On Head.
Guy Davis is an American creature designer, concept artist, illustrator and storyboard artist who has worked on film, television, comic book and video game projects. He is known for his collaborations with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, including the television series The Strain (2014–17) and the films Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015) and The Shape of Water (2017). Beforehand, Davis was the regular artist for the Hellboy spinoff comic B.P.R.D. (2003–2010), as well as the artist behind his own creator-owned comic The Marquis (2009).
Mark Ellis is an American novelist/graphic novelist, journalist, and comics creator who under the pen name James Axler has written scores of books for the Outlanders and Deathlands paperback novel series as well as numerous other books under his own name.
John Arcudi is an American comic book writer, best known for his work on The Mask and B.P.R.D., and his series Major Bummer.
Roger the Homunculus is a fictional character featured in the Hellboy and B.P.R.D. comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. He is an unusually large homunculus, a humanoid being said to be created by means of alchemy. Initially revived by Liz Sherman, Roger is one of the early supporting characters of the "Mignola-verse", appearing alongside other "enhanced" B.P.R.D. agents including Sherman, Abe Sapien and Johann Kraus under Dr. Kate Corrigan.
Katherine Corrigan is a fictional character from the Hellboy and B.P.R.D. comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics and created by Mike Mignola. Her appearance is based on Mignola's wife, Christine. Within the world of the comics, dubbed the "Mignola-verse", Corrigan acts as B.P.R.D. field leader to "enhanced" agents including Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Roger the Homunculus, Liz Sherman and Johann Kraus.
Benjamin Daimio is a fictional comic book character who appears in Dark Horse Comics books featuring Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, of which Daimio is an employee. Created by Mike Mignola, John Arcudi and Guy Davis, Daimio first appeared in B.P.R.D.: The Dead #1. A formerly dead United States Marine, Daimio suffers from a curse that transforms him into a horrific jaguar-like creature.
Lobster Johnson is a fictional character featured in the Hellboy and Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. He was created by Mike Mignola.
