The BIST 100 is the most important Turkish stock index. The abbreviation BIST stands for Borsa Istanbul (Istanbul Stock Exchange). The BIST 100 provides information on the share price performance of the 100 largest companies on the Istanbul Stock Exchange. It thus reflects the market segment for Turkish blue chips and is the leading index for the Turkish stock market.

Index

The BIST 100 is a price index and contains the 100 largest Turkish stocks weighted by market capitalization. [1] The index level is determined exclusively on the basis of share prices. Dividend payments are not included in the calculation of the index. The BIST 100 has been calculated since January 1, 1986. The index base was initially 100 points. With effect from December 27, 1996, the index was divided by 100, setting the 1986 base value at 1 point. [1] With effect from July 27, 2020, the index was divided by 100 again, setting the base value from 1986 at 0.01 point. The index is calculated in Turkish lira, which has been very inflationary in the past. [2]

The DAX is a stock market index consisting of the 40 major German blue chip companies trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. It is a total return index. Prices are taken from the Xetra trading venue. The FTSE 250 Index ( "Footsie") is a capitalisation-weighted index consisting of the 101st to the 350th largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, mostly covering the mid cap sector between large and small companies. The index contains a higher proportion of companies whose primary business is conducted in the UK, compared to the FTSE 100. Due to this, the FTSE 250 tends to be more representative of the strength of the UK economy than the FTSE 100. Promotions and demotions to and from the index occur quarterly in March, June, September, and December.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange is a stock exchange based in the city of Shanghai, China. The Lahore Stock Exchange was a financial facility located in Lahore, Pakistan. It was incorporated as a company Limited by Guarantee under the Indian Companies Act 1913 on 5 October 1970. In the first General meeting of the Board of Directors held on the same day, it was decided that the Exchange will commence its working by December 1970. Tokyo Stock Price Index, commonly known as TOPIX, along with the Nikkei 225, is an important stock market index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) in Japan, which tracks the entire market of domestic companies and covers most stocks in the Prime Market and some stocks in the Standard Market. It is calculated and published by the TSE. As of January 2025, there will be 1,716 companies listed on the TSE, since about 400 stocks with low liquidity will be phased out after the TSE reform in 2022.

It is one of the main national indices of the pan-European stock exchange group Euronext alongside Brussels' BEL20, Paris's CAC 40 and Amsterdam's AEX.
