This is a list about all badges of honor in Iran. The list contains badges and medals of the monarchy and government of the Qajar dynasty, Pahlavi dynasty and Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran which have special ratings and classes.

Qajar dynasty badges

The Qajar dynasty was an Iranian royal dynasty of Turkic origin, specifically from the Qajar tribe, ruling over Iran from 1789 to 1925. [1] [2] These badges used in the Qajar period and can be divided into two categories: [3]

  1. Badges of swordsmen (Persian: نشان‌های شمشیربندان)
  2. Badges of prominents (Persian: نشان‌های سرشناسان)

The swordsmanship badges had eight levels in the following order: [4]

  1. Noyan A'zam badge (Persian: نشان نویان اعظم, For Lords)
  2. Amir Tumani badge (Persian: نشان امیرتومانی, For Major-generals)
  3. Sartippi badge (Persian: نشان سرتیپی, For Brigadier-generals)
  4. Sarhangi badge (Persian: نشان سرهنگی, For Colonels)
  5. Yavari badge (Persian: نشان یاوری, For Majors)
  6. Soltani badge (Persian: نشان سلطانی, For Captains)
  7. Nayebi badge (Persian: نشان نایبی, For Lieutenants)
  8. Vakil badge (Persian: نشان وکیل, For Sergeants)

The badges were in the form of a baldric with colored ribbons, at the bottom of which a medal with the image of Lion and Sun was hung. The importance of the badge was recognized by their color. The blue colors belonged to the kings and the green colors belonged to Lords (Noyan A'zam), red to Major-generals (Amir Tumani) and Brigadier-generals (Sartippi) and white to the colonels (Sarhangi). Badges of the Islamic Republic

Government Orders of the Islamic Republic of Iran

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the ruling state and current political system in Iran, in power since the Islamic revolution and fall of the Pahlavi dynasty in 1979. [12]

Government Orders of the Islamic Republic of Iran are state badges (country) that are awarded to qualified individuals, whether citizens of Iran or foreign nationals, in accordance with the provisions of the by-laws. The order of the "Order of Islamic Revolution" as the highest badge of the Islamic Republic of Iran is for the then President. Other badges are given by the President on the proposal of the relevant ministers and with the approval of the Council of Ministers. The badges of the Islamic Republic in order of precedence are as follows: [13] [14] [15] [16]

Order of Zolfaghar Iranian military honour

The Order of Zolfaghar is the highest military honour of Iran. The Order was established in 1856 as the Decoration of the Commander of the Faithful, by Emperor Naser al-Din Shah. It was given its current name in 1925, by Emperor Reza Shah I. It was the pinnacle of the Imperial honours system, and was limited to the Sovereign and the individuals who had performed the most outstanding acts of patriotism on behalf of Persia and Iran.

The National Medals of Appreciation and Memorial is an honor bestowed by the President of Iran to individuals who have made important contributions to the advancement of knowledge in various fields of science or have lost their lives defending the country. Order of Islamic Republic Iranian award of honor

The Excellent Order of the Islamic Republic is Iran's state decoration of honour, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. According to Article 5 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of the Islamic Republic awarded by President of Iran to the heads and other officials of foreign countries, the highest executive of international organizations, or to prominent cultural, political, international characters recognized in any of the following respects:

  1. The exaltation of the word Islam and the spread of the intellectual foundations of the Islamic Revolution
  2. Defending the rights of the world's oppressed peoples
  3. Act to liberate their country from cultural, economic and political colonization
  4. Protect and preservation of their country from the aggression of superpowers or their subordinates
  5. Acquisition of fundamental freedoms and human rights for the people of their country
  6. Sensitive and appropriate support for Iran's positions on major international scenes
  7. Taking anti-arrogant stances
  8. Sincerely cooperate in establishing or developing healthy relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the country of in charge character
  9. Continuously striving for peace and security and comfort in the world
Order of Independence (Iran)

The Excellent Order of Independence is an Iranian state order, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. According to "Article 3" of the "Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders" of Iran, the "Order of Independence" is awarded by President of Iran to recognize "taking important offices and playing a key role in achieving high goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran with all–lateral effort in enlightening positions, distinguished innovations to reach self–sufficiency and independence in different aspects, saving the government from potential threats, helping global proliferation of Islamic revolution principles and other valuable services in critical and decisive periods of time".

Order of Merit and Management Iranian award of honor

Order of Merit and Management is an Iranian state expertise order established by "Council of Iran Ministers" in November 21, 1990. The order has three classes, and awarded by President of Iran. According to Article 9 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of Merit and Management is awarded to people who achieve "an exceptional success in management, distinguished activities, aiding the oppressed and deprived people and/or beneficiary use of utilities and/or offering exquisite ways".

Order of Service Iranian award of honor

Order of Service is an Iranian state general order. For the first time, it was established and awarded during the Pahlavi dynasty and during the reign of Reza Shah. After Iranian Revolution it was re-established by "Council of Iran Ministers" in November 21, 1990. The order has three classes. According to Article 12 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of Service awarded by President of Iran to recognize "achieving distinguished success" in one of the following:

  1. Truly and consistent efforts in accomplishing responsibility and servitude
  2. Aiding the oppressed and deprived people
Order of Courage (Iran) Iranian award of honor

Order of Courage or Bravery is an Iranian state general order established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. The order has three classes. According to Article 14 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of Courage awarded by President of Iran to recognize "courage, a high characteristic of human in achieving distinguished success" in one of the following:

  1. Volunteer to accomplish a difficult task which is critical for the country
  2. Accepting a serious state mission or a social duty which is accompanied by potential threats
  3. Opportune use of physical power and skills to reach a high goal
Order of Culture and Art Iranian award of honor

Order of Culture and Art is an Iranian state general order established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990 and modified on June 27, 2007. The order has three classes and awarded by President of Iran. According to Article 17 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of Culture and Art is awarded to those who "facilitate theirs thinking, passions and emotions to express deep Islamic and humanitarian concepts and to spread culture" in one of the following ways:

  1. Disseminating rich Islamic culture and eliminating society from foreign decadent culture
  2. Expanding the theoretical and disciplinary foundations of religious education
  3. Expanding national culture and revitalizing valuable social traditions
  4. Expressing creativity and presenting exquisite works of art or literature
  5. Pay particular attention to the country's cultural, artistic or literary heritage, so as to be effective in its restoration, preservation and utilization
  6. Introducing, describing, explaining, critiquing and presenting one of the artistic or literary disciplines internationally
  7. Inventing a new style in one of the artistic or literary disciplines
  8. Promote a culture of sacrifice and martyrdom in the community
  9. Creating remarkable and valuable artworks to convey the ideals and values of the Islamic Revolution and the Sacred Defense to future generations
Awards and decorations of the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces

Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces awards and decorations are the collections of military awards which granted to Iranian military based on their performance history. One of the most common awards are Medals. The Medal is a symbol that, with the agreement of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, is accorded to the armed forces in order to appreciate, encourage and strengthen the morale. Recipients will be allowed to install these medals on their identical clothing in accordance with the specific instructions of each medal. Before the Islamic Revolution, various military awards and decorations were used. After the revolution, while many signs of the Imperial era were obsolete, new titles were planned to design to thank the efforts of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Among the military honors created by the Persian Empire, medals of Zolfaghar, Knowledge, Razi, Art and Sports are still being used. The first presentation ceremony of military awards for Iranian commanders in Iran was held on September 27, 1989, on the day of Operation Samen-ol-A'emeh.

Order of Islamic Revolution

The Order of Islamic Revolution is the highest order of the honorary orders in the Islamic Republic of Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. According to "Article 2" of the "Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders" of Iran, the "Order of Islamic Revolution" is one number for each presidential term which is being given to the President of Iran at the ceremony of the presidential inauguration.

Medal of Persian Literature or Medal of Adab Parsi is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by Council of Iran Ministers on November 21, 1990. According to Article 19 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Medal of Persian Literature is awarded to persons who have significant attributes or efforts in one of the following fields:

  1. Creation of exquisite literary works
  2. Revival of Iran's literary reserves through analysis or proper presentation of those works
  3. Introducing past lecturers and speakers in a way that is effective in the ability to express Persian language and literature
  4. Providing acquaintance way to people of the world with Persian language and literature

Order of Education and Pedagogy is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. According to "Article 16" of the "Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders" of Iran, the "Order of Education and Pedagogy" due to emphasize the importance of learning science and the necessity of transferring Islamic education in society, awarded to persons who have demonstrated competence in the following fields:

  1. Development and transfer of science, technology and profession
  2. Designing and implementing innovative and successful ways of teaching and nurturing
  3. An impressive and successful endeavor to make trainees polite and ethical into Islamic rituals and social desirable ethics

Order of Knowledge is one of the badges of honor in Iran. Its establishment dates back to the Qajar dynasty era under the name of "Order of Science" that later in Pahlavi dynasty era its name changed to "Order of Knowledge". Finally, it reestablished in Islamic Republic era by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990.

Order of Construction is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. According to "Article 11" of the "Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders" of Iran, the "Order of Construction" due to praising the efforts being made to reconstruction the country, is awarded to people who have made significant efforts in one of the following ways:

  1. Development of civil and building the country, especially in deprived areas
  2. Reconstruction of war and disaster affected areas
  3. Presenting designs and successful civil development plans
  4. Increasing the quantity and quality of products that are essential to the country's economic prosperity

Order of Justice is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. According to "Article 10" of the "Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders" of Iran, the "Order of Justice" is awarded to those who have contributed to the enforcement of divine decrees and the establishment of law and justice in society or who have a good judicial and aptitude record, in some of the following ways:

  1. Scientific and technical work on the formulation of laws
  2. Brilliant history in judiciary or legislative
  3. Defending truth, justice and the rights of people

Order of Mehr Iranian award of honor

Order of Mehr is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on September 13, 1994. According to "Article 18" of the "Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders" of Iran, in addition to the women can having other badges, the "Order of Mehr" due to honor the status and the position of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran, is awarded to women who are source of valuable works in one of the following ways:

  1. Constructive and active participation in social, economic and political affairs
  2. Introducing the exemplary of Muslim woman in society and trying to explain and promote its ideological and social foundations
  3. Practical presentation of the exemplary of excellent mother or spouse, especially among mothers and wives of martyrs, veterans and freedmans who with dedication in maintaining and strengthening the family, have provided outstanding service in cultural, educational, or research areas

  2. Proper use of technical facilities and economic resources
  3. Designing or implementing important industrial and agricultural projects
  4. Innovations and inventions to improve working and production practices and increase productivity

  6. Creating the best Islamic and human relations in the workplace

The Order of Altruism is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990 and modified on June 27, 2007. The order has three classes, and is awarded by President of Iran. According to Article 15 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of Altruism due to commemorate this valuable trait, is awarded to individuals who are privileged in some of the following respects:

  1. Dedication and self-sacrifice for the sacred aims and purposes of the Islamic system, especially the sacrifices during the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution and the sacred defense, and the provision of outstanding services to upbuild the country or to preserve and enhance the sacred system of the Islamic Republic
  2. Enduring material damages to provide critical and essential service
  3. Continuance effective social philanthropy and founding charities and establishing scientific, research and educational institutions in the community
Order of Freedom (Iran) Iranian award of honor

The Order of Freedom is one of the badges of honor in Iran, established by "Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21, 1990. The order is awarded by President of Iran. According to the Article 4 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran, the Order of Freedom is awarded to persons who hold one of the first order of General or Expertise awards and continue to be qualified to serve the sacred aims of the Islamic system.
