Bagh Bondi Khela(English: The Caged Tiger Game) is a 1975 Indian Bengali language political action- crime thriller film co-written and directed by Pijush Basu. [2] Produced by Ashima Bhattacharya, the film is based on a novel of the same name written by Prafulla Roy. It stars Uttam Kumar, Partho Mukherjee, Supriya Devi and Mahua Roy Chowdhury in lead roles, while Tarun Kumar, Asit Baran, Ashim Kumar, Tarun Mitra, Dilip Bose, Kalyani Mondal and Kshudiram Bhattacharya played supporting roles. [3] The soundtrack of the film was composed by Dipankar Chattopadhyay, making his debut as a music director in Bengali Cinema. The film plots revolves around Bhabesh Banerjee, a rich businessman, who all on a sudden calls his son Rajesh and gifts all his properties him to contest in the election from Ranipur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) and to gain his fame in the field of politics. But Rajesh, who stays separate from his father and knows about his character, declines all the things and later gets convinced by his father. Eventually coming to know about his father's true identity behind the masked face of a loyal political leader and businessman, he informs Kolkata police to arrest Bhabesh. But Bhabesh commits suicide as he never wanted to bow his head down to defeat.

Plot

Bhabesh Banerjee is a corrupt and loose character. He lives in Ranipur, involved with unauthorised business, smuggling and immoral trafficking. His son Rajesh is an honest man who loves Dolon. Bhabesh cheated Dolon's father using counterfeit documents. When Rajesh comes to visit his father, Bhabesh gifts all his properties to Rajesh for getting political mileage and enters into politics. Bhabesh's second wife Bibha knows the whole plot and reveals it to Rajesh. When police come to arrest Bhabesh, he commits suicide. [7]

Reception

The film is remembered as Uttam Kumar's one of the first films he performed as an antagonist. [4] Before this film, he also played negative characters in movies such as Kuhak in 1960, Aparichita in 1969, [8] Stree in 1972. [9] The film didn't perform well at the Box Office. [4]

Aparichita is a 1969 Indian Bengali-language thriller film co-written and directed by Salil Dutta. Produced by Debnath Roy and Geetali Dutta under the banner of R. D. Productions, the film is based on the novel of the same name by Samaresh Basu, which itself was actually inspired by The Idiot written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. It stars Uttam Kumar, Soumitra Chatterjee, Sandhya Roy, and Aparna Sen in the lead, while Utpal Dutt, Bikash Roy, Tarun Kumar, Dilip Roy and Haradhan Bandyopadhyay in another pivotal roles.
