Tartaric acid is a white, crystalline organic acid that occurs naturally in many fruits, most notably in grapes, but also in bananas, tamarinds, and citrus. Its salt, potassium bitartrate, commonly known as cream of tartar, develops naturally in the process of winemaking. The administrative center of the rayon is Givrakh. The name Kangarli was originally applied to a Turkic tribe who founded a regional Maku Khanate that ruled the area. On 25 May 2004, President Ilham Aliyev appointed Nazim Cafarov as the executive head of the rayon.
