Kazi Md. Ali Jahangir, mononymously known as Balam, [1] (born 24 December 1976) is a Bangladeshi singer, guitarist, composer, and music producer. He was born in Dhamaron village in Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj (Bikrampur) district. [2] He used to be the lead guitarist/vocalist for the band Warfaze. [3] Later he introduced himself as a solo singer.

Career

Balam started his career by forming the band Renegades after graduating from secondary school in 1995. He was the lead guitarist and main vocalist. The band published two albums - Onno Bhubon and Firiye Dao. Balam also worked as a guest artist in bands like Ark and Pentagon. [4]

Three years later, he joined Warfaze as the lead guitarist and the second vocalist. In 2002, Sunjoy and Babna left the band for personal reasons. Balam then became the lead vocalist. He produced singles like "Jotodure" (a tremendously popular song), "Nei Tumi", and "Somoy" as a part of the band. Maharaj is one of the band's hit albums during this time period, of which Balam produced. Balam published his first featured album, Prem Shikari, in 2005 which gained him recognition. [5] [6]

In 2007, he left Warfaze and pursued a solo career. His debut solo album was self-titled. He continued with two consecutive albums Balam II and Balam III. During this period he also published two duet albums on which his sister Julee sang in his composition. [7]

In 2013, his fourth solo album Bhubon was released. Afterward, Balam stopped working on new songs after facing rejection for his fourth album. Balam came back with his first HD music video "Meghey Dhaaka"in collaboration with Gaan Bangla Tv.. It received a huge response, and he started working regularly. [8] "Koto Je Khujechi Tomay" [9] was another duet music video. [10]

In 2017, Balam published his fifth solo album, Golper Shohor. [11]

Balam has also acted on two TV dramas and hosted a number of TV programs. He has also worked with various production houses and collaborated with the likes of Adit Rahman and other revered musical personalities. [12] In 2023, he came back after almost 10 year with a playback for the highest grossing Bangladeshi film of all time Priyotoma named "O Priyotoma" with a Akassh composition, starring Shakib Khan and Idhika Paul. Warfaze is a Bangladeshi heavy metal band formed on 6 June 1984 in Dhaka by Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Meer, Helal, Naimul, and Bapi. They are one of the earliest heavy metal bands in Bangladesh. The band had numerous line-up changes since 1984 and since its inception, the band has released seven studio albums, one compilation album, and several singles. They have experimented with numerous sub-genres of rock and heavy metal over the years.

Prince Mahmud is a Bangladeshi lyricist, composer and music director. He has been writing and composing songs for solo and joint albums of band artists in Bangladesh since the 90's. Many of his songs gained wide popularity. His first mixed album Shakti (1995) propelled his journey as a composer of mixed albums, which immediately garnered him a massive success. In a career spanning more than three decades, Mahmud has released 50 albums including solo, duets and mixed. He is widely regarded as the greatest lyricist and composer of his time.

<i>Priyotoma</i> 2023 Bangladeshi film

Priyotoma is a 2023 Bangladeshi romantic action film. The film was directed by Himel Ashraf, and is the second he has directed. It was produced by Arshad Adnan under the banner of Versatile Media. The film story was written by late Faruk Hossain alone and Himel Ashraf jointly wrote the screenplay and dialogues with him. It is a tragic love story that left an indelible mark on Sumon's life, shattering his world and left him forever transformed, featuring Idhika Paul, Shahiduzzaman Selim and Lutfur Rahman George in the lead role. Many others including Elina Shammi, Don and Shiba Shanu performed important roles.

Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu is a Bangladeshi musician, known as a rhythm composer, drummer, lyricist, and music producer. He is best known as the co-founder and Band Leader of Warfaze, a popular heavy metal and rock band from Bangladesh. Tipu has been with Warfaze for a year since its formation in 1986, providing drums play, percussion play, and rhythm composition for all eight of the band's music albums. He is also known for playing in the band “Pentagon” and “Winning” which garnered huge success. He served as the General Secretary of Bangladesh Musical Bands' Association (BAMBA) until November 2020 and has since held the position of Vice President which he still holds currently. He is also a Business Entrepreneur who is running an Advertising Agency named Carnival in Bangladesh. He was also the Partner & Production Director of Ektaar Music from 2001–2005. Later, he received an invitation from the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA) which is a Bangladesh government agency under the Prime Minister's Office responsible for developing policies to build a skilled force for different sectors of labor. In 2020 he started a record label called Loy Records which was launched officially in December 2021 with the prime intention to promote and cultivate young talents of the country whilst encouraging them to find their own path through music so they can represent their country internationally. On 10 December 2021, he started his new journey with his own record label called "Loyy Records"

"O Priyotoma" is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language duet song sung by Balam and Somnur Monir Konal and composed by Akassh from the 2023 soundtrack album Priyotoma of the film of the same name, starring Shakib Khan and Idhika Paul. The song is written by Asif Iqbal. The song was released on 27 June 2023. The music video for the song was released on the same day under the music label Tiger Media.

"Eshwar" is a Bangladeshi Bengali-language duet song sung by Akib Zaman Riyad and composed by Prince Mahmud from the 2023 soundtrack album Priyotoma of the film of the same name, starring Shakib Khan and Idhika Paul. The song is written by Shomeshwar Oli, which released on 29 June 2023, the film's release date. The music video for the song was released on the same day under the music label Tiger Media.
