The Bangabandhu Cup 2023 International Kabaddi Tournament is an International Kabaddi Tournament organised by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation in Bangladesh. The third season of Bangabandhu Cup (Kabaddi) this tournament will be commenced from 13th to 21st March 2023. The event will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 12 teams across several continents (Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America) are set to participate in the Bangabandu Kabaddi Cup. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Contents

Bangladesh are the previous champions of the Bangabandhu Cup (Kabaddi). They won the title for the 2nd time in 2022, defeating Kenya in the final.

Kabaddi is a contact team sport played between two teams of seven players, originating in ancient India. The objective of the game is for a single player on offence, referred to as a "raider", to run into the opposing team's half of the court, touch out as many of their players as possible, and return to their own half of the court, all without being tackled by the defenders in 30 seconds. Points are scored for each player tagged by the raider, while the opposing team earns a point for stopping the raider. The stadium is well known for hosting a high-profile international friendly between Argentina and Nigeria in 2011.

The 2006 AFC Challenge Cup was held between 1 and 16 April 2006 in Bangladesh. Sixteen teams were split into four groups, the top two in each group qualifying for the quarterfinals, and from then on a straight knockout contest. There was no qualification stage. The cup winner was Tajikistan. The fair play award was won by Sri Lanka and Tajik Ibrahim Rabimov won the most valuable player award.

The Bangladesh Premier League, simply known as the BPL and officially ABG BashundharaBangladesh Premier League since 2023 for sponsorship reasons, is the top tier of the Bangladeshi football league system. It is run by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). The Dhaka Derby between Abahani Dhaka and Mohammedan SC is one of the league's most popular matches. The BPL superseded the Dhaka Premier Division League which had functioned as the top tier from 1948 to 2006.

The 2003 South Asian Football Federation Gold Cup was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh between 10 January 2003 and 20 January 2003. All matches were played at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Originally scheduled to be held between 26 January 2002 and 5 February 2002, the tournament was postponed due to the suspension of Bangladesh Football Federation by FIFA. Afghanistan were not in the draw, but were included in the tournament following an AFC recommendation to do so. It was also Bhutan's first tournament.

Chittagong Abahani Limited, also spelled as Chattogram Abahani or Chittagong Abahoni, is a sports club based in Chittagong, Bangladesh. A wing of Abahani Limited was established at Chittagong in 1980 known as Chittagong Abahani. Though it was established as a wing of Abahani Limited, Chittagong Abahani has its own directorial board, club structure and operates separately at present. It is considered as the most successful football club from Chittagong. It currently competes in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the top tier of Bangladeshi football.

The 2018 Federation Cup also known as the Walton Federation Cup 2018 due to the sponsorship from Walton Group was the 30th edition of the tournament. Thirteen teams completed. Dhaka Abahani was the winner of previous edition of the tournament. The winner earned a slot in the group stage of the 2019 AFC Cup.

The 2018 Independence Cup, also known as Walton Independence Cup 2018 or Walton Independence Cup Football Tournament 2018 due to the sponsorship from Walton Group, was the 10th edition of the Independence Cup, the main domestic annual club football tournament organized by Bangladesh Football Federation. Thirteen participants competed in the tournament.

The 2019 Bangamata U–19 Women's Gold Cup was the 1st edition of Bangamata U-19 Women's International Gold Cup, an annual international women's youth football tournament hosted by Bangladesh Football Federation.The main goal of this tournament to make strong pipeline of Bangladesh women's national football team in future. The Bangabandhu Cup 2021 International Kabaddi Tournament is an International Kabaddi Tournament organised by Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation in Bangladesh. This tournament will be conducted marking the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This tournament will also mark the return of International Kabaddi after being hit by global Corona Virus pandemic. The 1st season of Bangabandhu Cup (Kabaddi) this tournament will be commenced from 28th March to 2nd April 2021. The event will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 5 teams across several continents are set to participate in the Bangabandu Kabaddi Cup.
