There are four cricket grounds at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan national sports institute in Savar, Dhaka. As well as serving the needs of the BKSP's students, the grounds have also staged first-class and List A cricket matches in Bangladeshi domestic competitions since 2000, and several minor international matches.

History

The No 1 Ground was the first of the four grounds to be developed and was the first to be used for Bangladeshi domestic competitions in 2000. The facilities at the other three grounds have been upgraded in recent years with the help of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. [1] Grounds 2, 3 and 4 are now regularly used for first-class and List A cricket. They serve as neutral grounds in domestic competitions.

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 1 Ground

Situated on the right just inside the main entrance to the BKSP complex, the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 1 Ground has been in operation since the late 1980s. It first staged matches in the Dhaka Premier Division senior limited-overs tournament in 1996. Its first international matches came in 1998: three warm-up matches for the Wills International Cup. The first first-class matches were in the National Cricket League in 2000–01, when the ground served as the home ground for Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The last first-class matches so far were in 2009–10. Bangladesh A also played first-class matches at the ground against the touring Pakistanis in 2001–02, and Sri Lanka A in 2005–06. [3] The first List A matches were four in the one-day National Cricket League in 2000–01. The last were in 2008–09.

In all, the ground has staged 10 first-class and 10 List A matches.

The other three grounds are located further inside the BKSP complex. Apart from matches in the major domestic competitions, all of the grounds are in constant use for minor matches.

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground hosted its first domestic first-class and List A matches in 2006. Bangladesh A also played two first-class matches there in 2010. Up to the end of the 2014–15 season the ground had staged 19 first-class, 21 List A and three Twenty20 matches. In 2011 it also held three matches in the qualifying series for the Women's Cricket World Cup. [4]

The No 3 and No 4 grounds, situated side by side, share their facilities. Each has a crowd capacity of about 2000. [5] At first, when the List A Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League was played at the grounds in 2013–14, the standard of the facilities received some criticism from the players. [6]

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 3 Ground has been used for domestic first-class and especially List A cricket since 2013–14. It is one of the principal grounds used in the Dhaka Premier League. Up to the end of the 2016–17 season the ground had staged 17 first-class and 99 List A matches. In 2011 it also held two matches in the qualifying series for the Women's World Cup.

In 2013–14, Rajshahi Division, batting first, lost their first six wickets for 77 but finished by declaring at 675 for 9. Farhad Reza scored 259. [7] In 2014–15, Mosaddek Hossain made 250 on the No 3 Ground, [8] then scored 282 on the No 2 Ground five days later. [9] Shuvagata Hom equalled the National League record when he took six catches in the match for Dhaka Division against Chittagong Division at the ground in 2014–15. [10]

In September 2015 the BKSP 3 & 4 grounds hosted the ICRC International T20 Cricket Tournament for people with physical disabilities. [11]

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 4 Ground

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 4 Ground has staged two first-class matches in 2013–14 and one in 2016–17, and 36 List A matches. It was one of the three grounds chosen for the 2016-17 Dhaka Premier Division, when it staged 27 List A matches.

In the first first-class match at the ground, in the National Cricket League, Dhaka Division, batting first, made 756 for 5 declared, the National League record total, four batsmen scoring centuries. The match ended in a draw when Rajshahi Division, set 607 to win, finished on 272 for 9 after their last-wicket pair held out for the last 8.2 overs. [12]

It is a government-funded autonomous institution.

The 2010 National Cricket League Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh, played in April 2010, this was first edition of a Twenty20 league involving the teams in the National Cricket League (NCL). The tournament was initiated by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It included six teams representing the divisions of Bangladesh. It was a limited success and has effectively been replaced by the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The tournament was won by the Rajshahi Rangers who defeated the Kings of Khulna by 6 wickets in the final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, the winning team's Qaiser Abbas being named "Man of the Match".

Sarwar Imran is a Bangladeshi cricket coach. He was head coach of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan from 1987 to 1997.

The 2014 Women's World Twenty20 was the fourth Women's World Twenty20 competition, taking place in Bangladesh from 23 March to 6 April 2014. The tournament was played in the cities of Sylhet and Dhaka – Cox's Bazar was originally intended to also host matches, but the venue was not available due to ongoing development. The tournament featured 10 teams, rather than the eight at previous tournaments, with all matches in the tournament accorded women's Twenty20 International (T20I) status. Bangladesh and Ireland made their first appearances at the event, which was run concurrently with the men's tournament. Australia won the tournament, beating England in the final by six wickets.

Mohammad Abdul Mazid is a Bangladeshi first-class cricketer who has played for Dhaka Division since 2011.

Rony Chowdhury is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Chittagong Division in the 2016–17 National Cricket League on 2 October 2016. In May 2021, Chowdhury was named in Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity's squad for the 2021 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League tournament. The 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League was an edition of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a List A cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was the sixth edition of the tournament with List A status, although almost 35 seasons have been played before achieving the status. It started on 8 March, and concluded on 23 April 2019. Directly before the List A tournament started, the inaugural edition of the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League took place, featuring the same twelve teams.

In December 2019, he was named in Bangladesh's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Hasan Murad is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his Twenty20 debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League on 25 February 2019. He made his List A debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on 8 March 2019. He was the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League tournament, with 22 dismissals in 13 matches. In December 2019, he was named in Bangladesh's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib is a Bangladeshi cricketer, who is a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He plays for Sylhet Division in domestic cricket.

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan football team is a football team from Bangladesh, which represents the national sports academy, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, and began playing professional football in Bangladesh in the mid-2000s. They currently participate in the Dhaka Second Division Football League, which is the fourth tier of Bangladeshi football. The team consists of players under the age of 18, and has produced many professional footballers that have gone on to play for the Bangladesh national football team and youth national teams.
