There are four cricket grounds at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan national sports institute in Savar, Dhaka. As well as serving the needs of the BKSP's students, the grounds have also staged first-class and List A cricket matches in Bangladeshi domestic competitions since 2000, and several minor international matches.

History

The No 1 Ground was the first of the four grounds to be developed and was the first to be used for Bangladeshi domestic competitions in 2000. The facilities at the other three grounds have been upgraded in recent years with the help of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. [1] Grounds 2, 3 and 4 are now regularly used for first-class and List A cricket. They serve as neutral grounds in domestic competitions.

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 1 Ground

Situated on the right just inside the main entrance to the BKSP complex, the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 1 Ground has been in operation since the late 1980s. It first staged matches in the Dhaka Premier Division senior limited-overs tournament in 1996. Its first international matches came in 1998: three warm-up matches for the Wills International Cup. The first first-class matches were in the National Cricket League in 2000–01, when the ground served as the home ground for Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The last first-class matches so far were in 2009–10. Bangladesh A also played first-class matches at the ground against the touring Pakistanis in 2001–02, and Sri Lanka A in 2005–06. [3] The first List A matches were four in the one-day National Cricket League in 2000–01. The last were in 2008–09.

In all, the ground has staged 10 first-class and 10 List A matches.

The other three grounds are located further inside the BKSP complex. Apart from matches in the major domestic competitions, all of the grounds are in constant use for minor matches.

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground hosted its first domestic first-class and List A matches in 2006. Bangladesh A also played two first-class matches there in 2010. Up to the end of the 2014–15 season the ground had staged 19 first-class, 21 List A and three Twenty20 matches. In 2011 it also held three matches in the qualifying series for the Women's Cricket World Cup. [4]

The No 3 and No 4 grounds, situated side by side, share their facilities. Each has a crowd capacity of about 2000. [5] At first, when the List A Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League was played at the grounds in 2013–14, the standard of the facilities received some criticism from the players. [6]

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 3 Ground has been used for domestic first-class and especially List A cricket since 2013–14. It is one of the principal grounds used in the Dhaka Premier League. Up to the end of the 2016–17 season the ground had staged 17 first-class and 99 List A matches. In 2011 it also held two matches in the qualifying series for the Women's World Cup.

In 2013–14, Rajshahi Division, batting first, lost their first six wickets for 77 but finished by declaring at 675 for 9. Farhad Reza scored 259. [7] In 2014–15, Mosaddek Hossain made 250 on the No 3 Ground, [8] then scored 282 on the No 2 Ground five days later. [9] Shuvagata Hom equalled the National League record when he took six catches in the match for Dhaka Division against Chittagong Division at the ground in 2014–15. [10]

In September 2015 the BKSP 3 & 4 grounds hosted the ICRC International T20 Cricket Tournament for people with physical disabilities. [11]

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 4 Ground

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 4 Ground has staged two first-class matches in 2013–14 and one in 2016–17, and 36 List A matches. It was one of the three grounds chosen for the 2016-17 Dhaka Premier Division, when it staged 27 List A matches.

In the first first-class match at the ground, in the National Cricket League, Dhaka Division, batting first, made 756 for 5 declared, the National League record total, four batsmen scoring centuries. The match ended in a draw when Rajshahi Division, set 607 to win, finished on 272 for 9 after their last-wicket pair held out for the last 8.2 overs. [12]

Monir Hossain is a Bangladeshi cricketer who has played at First-class, List A and Twenty20 level. He is a left-handed batsman and slow left arm orthodox bowler. He has represented Barisal Division and Sylhet Division in First-class and List A cricket. He has played with Duronto Rajshahi and the Barisal Bulls in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Cricket is the most popular sport in Bangladesh. There is a strong domestic league which on many occasions also saw Test players from many countries gracing the cricket fields of Bangladesh. In the year 2000 Bangladesh became a full member of the International Cricket Council, which allows the national team to play Test cricket. The Bangladesh national cricket team goes by the nickname of the Tigers – after the royal Bengal tiger. At present among the most popular cricket players in Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza ( captain). Bangladesh's victory in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup which was held in South Africa in 2020 is the country's biggest cricketing achievement.

Kamrul Islam, generally known as "Rabbi", is a Bangladeshi first-class and List A cricketer who has played for Barisal Division from the 2008–09 season. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler.

Sarwar Imran is the most successful Bangladeshi coach in the history of Bangladesh's Cricket. He was head coach of BKSP from 1987 to 1997.

The 2012 Bangladesh Premier League, also known as Destiny BPL 2012, was the first season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) established by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The competition featured six franchises and used a tournament format with a double round robin group stage followed by two semi-finals and a final. The season began on 9 February with the final played on 29 February. The competition was won by Dhaka Gladiators.

The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, also known as the Dhaka Premier League, is a club List A tournament in Bangladesh.

Mosaddek Hossain Bangladeshi cricketer

Mosaddek Hossain Saikat is a Bangladeshi cricketer who has played first-class and List A cricket in Bangladesh since 2013. In 2014-15 he made 250 and 282 in consecutive first-class innings and passed 1000 first-class runs in his 10th match. In October 2015, in his 12th first-class match, he became the first Bangladeshi player to score three double-centuries. He made his Test debut in March 2017.

Shamim Hossain is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Chittagong Division in the 2017–18 National Cricket League on 15 September 2017. He made his Twenty20 debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League on 25 February 2019. He made his List A debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on 8 March 2019. In December 2019, he was named in Bangladesh's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

The 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League was an edition of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a List A cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was the sixth edition of the tournament with List A status, although almost 35 seasons have been played before achieving the status. It started on 8 March, and concluded on 23 April 2019. Directly before the List A tournament started, the inaugural edition of the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League took place, featuring the same twelve teams.

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan cricket team, which represents the national sports academy, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, began playing List A cricket in Bangladesh in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, and T20 cricket in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League. Naushad Iqbal is a Bangladeshi cricketer. In February 2019, he was selected by Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the players' draft for the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League. He made his Twenty20 debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League on 25 February 2019, taking one wicket for seventeen runs. He made his List A debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on 8 March 2019.

The 2019–20 National Cricket League was the twenty-first edition of the National Cricket League (NCL), a first-class cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. The tournament started on 10 October 2019, with eight teams placed into two tiers. The matches were used as the national team's preparation for their Test series against India in November 2019. Rajshahi Division were the defending champions.
