Bangladesh Police Service Association - BPSA is the association of the BCS cadre police officers of Bangladesh. [1] [2]

History

In January 2008, Nabo Bikram Kishore Tripura, Additional Inspector-General of Police, and Mahbubur Rahman, superintendent of police of Dhaka District, became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [3]

In January 2011, A. K. M. Shahidul Haque, Additional Inspector-General of Police, and Monirul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch, became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [4]

In July 2017, Bangladesh Police Service Association defended police officers actions over detaining Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Barisal Tariq Salmon over publishing a distorted image of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. [5] The actions of the police were criticized by Bangladesh Administrative Service Association and officers in question were withdrawn from service. [5]

In 2018, Asaduzzaman Mia, Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Muhammad Harun Or Rashid, superintendent of police, was the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [6] The Bangladesh Police Service Association and the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association had a reunion in July 2018 and agreed to work together. [7] On 27 December 2018, Bangladesh Police Service Association criticized Dr Kamal Hossain over his comments against police officers. [8]

In February 2019, Benazir Ahmed, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion, and Proloy Kumar Joarder, Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [9]

In January 2020, Shafiqul Islam, Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Mohammad Jayedul Alam, Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj District, became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [10] [11] Bangladesh Police Service Association defended the police force in the wake of the murder of retired major Sinha Mohammed Rashed Khan by some police officers. [12]

In February 2021, Bangladesh Police Service Association criticized the report by Al Jazeera on corruption in Bangladesh and titled "All the Prime Minister's men". [13]

On 26 June 2021 Monirul Islam, Additional Inspector-General of Police of the Special Branch and Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [14]

In December 2021, Bangladesh Police Service Association criticized the United States sanctions against Bangladesh security personals, including former President of the Association Benazir Ahmed. [15]

Mohammad Ali Mia, BPM, PPM is the head of the Criminal Investigation Department.

According to Human Rights Watch, 70 percent of extrajudicial deaths involving the police involved Detective Branch.

Mohammad Khoda Baksh Chowdhury is a former Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh Police. He is one of the convicts of the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack case.

Mohammed Nazibur Rahman is an Additional Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and former rector of Police Staff College, Bangladesh. He is the former Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy. He is a former commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police and director of the National Security Intelligence. He had previously served in the Bangladesh High Commission to India and was the first chief of the Bangladesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Unit.

Mizanur Rahman is a former deputy inspector general Bangladesh police and Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was involved in a notable bribery scandal. He was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment in a bribery case. He was accused of forcefully abducting a woman and marrying her against her will.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Syed Nurul Islam</span> Bangladeshi police officer

Syed Nurul Islam is a deputy inspector general of Bangladesh Police and is in charge of Dhaka Range. He is the former deputy commissioner of Motijheel Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was the additional deputy commissioner of Ramna Division.
