Bangladesh Police Service Association - BPSA is the association of the BCS cadre police officers of Bangladesh. [1] [2]
In January 2008, Nabo Bikram Kishore Tripura, Additional Inspector-General of Police, and Mahbubur Rahman, superintendent of police of Dhaka District, became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [3]
In January 2011, A. K. M. Shahidul Haque, Additional Inspector-General of Police, and Monirul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch, became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [4]
In July 2017, Bangladesh Police Service Association defended police officers actions over detaining Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Barisal Tariq Salmon over publishing a distorted image of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. [5] The actions of the police were criticized by Bangladesh Administrative Service Association and officers in question were withdrawn from service. [5]
In 2018, Asaduzzaman Mia, Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Muhammad Harun Or Rashid, superintendent of police, was the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [6] The Bangladesh Police Service Association and the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association had a reunion in July 2018 and agreed to work together. [7] On 27 December 2018, Bangladesh Police Service Association criticized Dr Kamal Hossain over his comments against police officers. [8]
In February 2019, Benazir Ahmed, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion, and Proloy Kumar Joarder, Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [9]
In January 2020, Shafiqul Islam, Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and Mohammad Jayedul Alam, Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj District, became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [10] [11] Bangladesh Police Service Association defended the police force in the wake of the murder of retired major Sinha Mohammed Rashed Khan by some police officers. [12]
In February 2021, Bangladesh Police Service Association criticized the report by Al Jazeera on corruption in Bangladesh and titled "All the Prime Minister's men". [13]
On 26 June 2021 Monirul Islam, Additional Inspector-General of Police of the Special Branch and Md Asaduzzaman, Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police became the President and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Police Service Association respectively. [14]
In December 2021, Bangladesh Police Service Association criticized the United States sanctions against Bangladesh security personals, including former President of the Association Benazir Ahmed. [15]
Bangladesh Police Service Association sent a threatening letter to editors after newspaper published reports on wealth and possible corruption of two retired police officers, Benazir Ahmed, and Asaduzzaman Mia, both former office holders of the association. [16] [17] [18] [19] The letter and statement was protested by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Crime Reporters' Association of Bangladesh, Dhaka Union of Journalists, Editors’ Council, Editors Guild, Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh, and Transparency International Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Police is the national law enforcement agency of Bangladesh, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, and enforcement of law and order within Bangladesh. Though the police are primarily concerned with the maintenance of law and order and security of persons and property of individuals, they also play a big role in the criminal justice system. Bangladesh Police played an important role during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is the unit of Bangladesh Police responsible for law enforcement in the metropolis of Dhaka, the national capital and most populous city in Bangladesh. The DMP is the largest police force unit in Bangladesh. At present, the DMP commissioner is Habibur Rahman.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is a Bangladeshi politician. He has been the secretary general of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) since 2016. He was a member of the parliament for Thakurgaon-1 constituency from 2001 to 2006. In that term, he was also appointed as the Minister of State in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and later Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Benazir Ahmed is a retired Bangladeshi police officer who served as 30th Inspector General of Bangladesh Police. Prior to his appointment as IGP, he served as the Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from January 2015 to April 2020. He is currently on a US sanctions list due to RAB's alleged role in forcibly disappearing citizens since December 2021.
Mohammad Javed Patwary is a Bangladeshi retired police officer and a former Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh Police. Earlier, he served as Additional Inspector General of Police Special Branch (SB). After his retirement in 2020, he was appointed as the ambassador to Saudi Arabia by the Government of Bangladesh.
Habibur Rahman is a Bangladeshi police officer. He is the 35th Commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here he was head of the Tourist Police. From 2019 to 2022, he was Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range, and DIG of administration & discipline at the police headquarters in Dhaka.

Asaduzzaman Mia, is a retired police officer who served as the 33rd Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the longest serving commissioner and the former chief executive officer of National Security Affairs Cell under the Cabinet Division. During his tenure as DMP Commissioner, Dhaka Metropolitan Police was considered to be at its peak.
Shafiqul Islam is a retired police officer who served as the 34th Police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was made the DMP commissioner on 14 September 2019. He previously served as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department.
