The Bangladesh Police is the national law enforcement agency of Bangladesh,operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It plays a crucial role in maintaining peace,and enforcement of law and order within Bangladesh. Though the police are primarily concerned with the maintenance of law and order and security of persons and property of individuals,they also play a big role in the criminal justice system. Bangladesh Police played an important role during the Bangladesh Liberation War.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police is the unit of Bangladesh Police responsible for law enforcement in the metropolis of Dhaka,the national capital and most populous city in Bangladesh. The DMP is the largest police force unit in Bangladesh. At present,the DMP commissioner is Sheikh Sajjad Ali.
The Criminal Investigation Department is a specialized intelligence and investigation wing of the Bangladesh Police. It is headquartered in Malibagh,Dhaka and maintains a training school named the Detective Training School. Personnel attached to this wing essentially work in plain clothes. Mohammad Ali Mia,BPM,PPM is the head of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Hassan Mahmood Khandker is a former Bangladeshi police officer who served as the 26th Inspector General of Bangladesh Police from 31 August 2010 to 30 December 2014. He was the longest serving Inspector General in Bangladesh Police's history. It was during his tenure that Bangladesh Police got Independence Day Award. Moreover,rank badge of the IGP upgraded to 3-star general in his time,earlier IGP was bearing two-star general rank badge since 1983.
Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) is a specialized branch of the Bangladesh Police formed to tackle terrorism and transnational crime. Deputy Inspector General Md. Asaduzzaman bpm (bar) is the chief of the branch.
Habibur Rahman is a former Bangladeshi police officer. He served as 35th commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here he was head of the Tourist Police. From 2019 to 2022,he was deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka Range,and DIG of administration and discipline at the police headquarters in Dhaka. He was sent into retirement from government service in public interest according to the provisions of section no. 45 of the Public Service Act,2018.
Ashraful Huda is a former Bangladesh police officer who served as the Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh Police during 2004–2005. Ashraful joined the Pakistani army as a commissioned officer in 1967 and served in Bangladesh army after independence.
Helal Uddin Ahmed is a retired Bangladeshi government official who is currently a member of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.He served as the Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government,Rural Development and Co-operatives previously. Helal Uddin Ahmed conducted the 11th National Parliament Election,2018,which was held on 30 December 2018 while serving as the Secretary of Bangladesh Election Commission.
Md. Monirul Islam is former additional inspector general of the Bangladesh Police who served as head of the Special Branch.
National Security Affairs Cell is a branch under the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh tasked with reviewing the activities and problems relating to internal state security. It operates under the support of the National Committee on Security Affairs (NCSA). Asaduzzaman Mia is the first chief executive officer (CEO) of the cell. He was made CEO on 14 September 2019.
Shafiqul Islam is a retired police officer who served as the 34th police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was made the DMP commissioner on 14 September 2019. He previously served as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun is a disgraced Bangladeshi police officer who was sacked for key involvement in mass killing during the Bangladesh student protest. He is now in custody. Mamun served as the 31st Inspector general of Bangladesh Police (IGP) who served from 30 September 2022 to 6 August 2024. Previously,he served as director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). He was made the DG of RAB in April 2020. Prior to joining RAB,he was the chief of Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Barrister Mahbubur Rahman is a retired Bangladeshi police officer and the former chief of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Harun-or-Rashid is a former police officer who served as the chief of the DMP detective branch of Bangladesh police. On 13 August 2024,he was named as one of the 7 accused in the illegal shooting and killing of various students across Dhaka during the Bangladesh Quota Reform Movement along with former prime minister Sheikh Hasina,former minister Obaidul Quader,former minister Asaduzaman Khan Kamal and police officer Biplob Kumar Sarker. He is known for his controversial actions.
Khandker Golam Faruq is a retired Bangladeshi police officer and an additional inspector general of police of the Bangladesh Police. He served as the 35th commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here,he was the 13th rector of Police Staff College Bangladesh. Before that he served as principal of Bangladesh Police Academy,Sardah,Rajshahi. He is a former deputy inspector general of Chittagong Range of Bangladesh Police.
Mohammed Nazibur Rahman is an additional inspector general of the Bangladesh Police and former rector of Police Staff College,Bangladesh. He is the former principal of Bangladesh Police Academy. He is a former commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police and director of the National Security Intelligence. He had previously served in the Bangladesh High Commission to India and was the first chief of the Bangladesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Unit.
Md. Mainul Hasan is a Bangladeshi police officer. He was the 36th Commissioner of DMP. Prior to join here,he was Deputy Inspector General of Criminal Investigation Department of police.
Md. Asaduzzaman is the retired deputy inspector general and former chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit.
