The Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic recognized Bangladesh's independence on 24 January 1972 and official diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Belarus were established in 1992. Neither country has a resident ambassador.

High level visits

Relations witnessed a significant boost when Mikhail Myasnikovich became the first Belarus Prime Minister to pay an official visit to Bangladesh in November 2012. [1] [2] Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina visited the Republic of Belarus on 8 July 2013. [3]

Cooperation

The two countries have signed agreements for cooperation on various fields such as trade, education, agriculture, technology and defence. [4] [5] [6]

Aid

The Belarusian government will provide $15 million to Bangladesh as long-term assistance for the development of country's readymade garment (RMG) sector. [7]

Trade

The first agreement on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries was signed in 2007 aimed at expanding bilateral trade. [8] A more comprehensive agreement was reached in May 2012 when a Bangladesh delegation led by former foreign minister Dipu Moni paid a visit to Minsk. Titled "Intergovernmental agreement on trade and economic cooperation", the agreement proved to be effective when the amount of bilateral trade grew rapidly in 2013. [9] [10]

Defence

Military cooperation between the two countries dates back to 2005. It received major reinforcements through an agreement on transfer of crucial defence technologies which was signed by the two countries during Mikhail Myasnikovich's official visit to Dhaka in 2012. The areas of cooperation in this field include "production and modernisation of military equipment and control, communication and electromagnetic warfare systems.." In 2013, a joint commission was also formed in this regard. [11]

Bangladesh–India relations are the bilateral relations between the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Republic of India, both of which are South Asian neighbours. Diplomatic relations between the two countries formally began in 1971 with India's recognition of an independent Bangladesh. On 6 December, Bangladesh and India celebrate Friendship Day commemorating India's recognition of Bangladesh and the continued friendship between the two countries.

Relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus are at very high level that Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko describes Azerbaijan as a "saver" of independence and sovereignty of Belarus and adds that "there's not anything close" in Azerbaijani-Belarusian relations. Both countries were part of the Russian Empire until 1918 and before 1991, they were part of the Soviet Union. Azerbaijan has an embassy in Minsk and Belarus has an embassy in Baku. Both countries are full members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Azerbaijan is a full member of the Council of Europe, Belarus is a candidate. Both Azerbaijan and Belarus are full members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). There are more than 6,000 Azerbaijanis living in Belarus.

Belarus and Israel established diplomatic relations in 1992. In 1947, Belarus voted in favor for the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine. Belarus operates an embassy in Tel Aviv, while Israel operates an embassy in Minsk. Around 130,000 Belarusian citizens immigrated to Israel during the 1990s under the Law of Return.

Mikhail Vladimirovich Myasnikovich is a Belarusian politician who was Prime Minister of Belarus from 2010 to 2014. He has been the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission since 2020.

Belarus Space Agency, officially known as National Agency for Space Research is a governmental body that coordinates all Belarus space research programs with scientific and commercial goals. It was established in 2009. It is closely associated with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, which was responsible for Belarusian space travel until the foundation of the Belarus Space Agency.

Bangladesh–Nigeria relations refer to the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Nigeria. Bangladesh has a high commission in Abuja. Nigeria had a high commission in Dhaka which is now closed. Nigeria is represented by a non-resident high commissioner in New Delhi. Both Bangladesh and Nigeria are members of international organizations including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Commonwealth of Nations and Developing 8 Countries.

Bilateral relations exist between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh. Azerbaijan's ambassador to India, is also accredited to Bangladesh. While Bangladesh Ambassador to Turkey is accredited as Bangladesh's ambassador to Azerbaijan. Bangladesh supported Azerbaijan in the UN with regard to the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. Azerbaijan supported Bangladesh on its nomination to International Maritime Organization in 2011.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Belarus–Iraq relations</span> Bilateral relations

Belarus does not have an embassy in Baghdad, but it does maintain a consulate in Erbil. Iraq has an embassy in Minsk. The last Ambassador of Iraq to Belarus was Haidar Hadi who served from July 2010 to November 2015. Since his post expired, there has been no Iraqi Ambassador in Belarus. Both are members of the Non-Aligned Movement.

Bangladesh–Belgium relations refers to bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Belgium. Bangladesh has a resident ambassador in Brussels who is also the ambassador of Bangladesh to Luxembourg. Belgium has a non resident ambassador in New Delhi.
