Barak Valley Engineering College (BVEC) is a state government engineering college located in Karimganj, Assam. [2] [3] [4] It was established on 14 August 2017 by Assam Government at Karimganj district, Assam. [5] [6] [7] [8] It is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University. On 2 March 2011, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of the Barak Valley Engineering College in Karimganj district, which was proposed by the Assam Government officially. [9]

The college started to offer B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the academic year 2017–18. It is the fifth state government engineering college of Assam and first in Barak Valley. [10]

History

In 2009, the Government of Assam took the first move to set up the college. In 2017, the government started its full-fledged operation of the college under the influence of Directorate of Technical Education(DTE), Assam. [11] The college is fully funded by the Government. [12]

The college is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University. [13] All the undergraduate courses Bachelor of Technology is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) [14] ,New Delhi,Govt of India. [15]

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was started in April, 2017.The annual intake capacity is 60 students. The department has a well-equipped computer centre which provides state-of-the-art computing facilities to all the students of the college. The Department also boasts Industry Collaboration for making the students Industry ready.

Assam Combined Entrance Examination (Assam-CEE) is a state-government controlled centralized entrance examination, conducted by the Assam Science and Technology University for admission into the seven premier government engineering colleges in Assam. The test is taken after the 12th grade for admission to graduation courses. The exam can be taken by those who studied Pure Science stream in plus two level with the specific subjects tested in the examination, which are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Every year approximately 25,000 - 40,000 students take the examination, and it is increasing every year. Students of both Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and the Central Board of Secondary Education board take the test. Formerly the examination was conducted by Dibrugarh University and since 2018 it is conducted by Assam Science & Technology University. It was previously known as the Assam Joint Admission Test (Assam-JAT) until the year 2012 and comprised both engineering and medical entrance examinations. Since then, the medical section of JAT was known as Assam Medical Entrance Examination (Assam-MEE).

The State Institute of Engineering & Technology, Nilokheri (formerly Government Engineering College, Nilokheri is a public government engineering institution in Nilokheri. It is one of the five engineering Academic Institute run by the Government of Haryana, the others being Ch. Devi Lal State Institute of Engineering & Technology, Sirsa, Rao Bijender Singh State Institute of Engineering & Technology, Rewari, Ch. Ranbir Singh State Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jhajjar and State Institute of Engineering & Technology, Panchkula.

Dhemaji Engineering College (DEC) was established in 2020 by the government of Assam at Tekjuri, Dhemaji district, Assam. The foundation stone of Dhemaji Engineering College was laid in 2011. On 22 February 2021 Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the college. The college starts to offer B.Tech degree from academic year 2020–21. The college is accredited by All India Council for Technical Education. The institution is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University.
