Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) is a premier state technical university located in Jalukbari, Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established in 2010 by the Assam Government under the Assam Science and Technology University Act 2009. It is only the premier Technical University in North-east India. [1] [2]

Contents

The university has signed a collaborative partnership agreement with Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia to improve the higher education, mainly in the field of technology and research. [3]

Assam Engineering College, established in 1955, is located in Guwahati. It is the first engineering college of Assam and is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University. AEC has been the hub of many academic and supplementary activities in Assam. It is a public college run by the state of Assam. While the majority of students are from Assam, there are fixed quotas for students from neighbouring states. The college is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE.

Assam Combined Entrance Examination (Assam-CEE) is a state-government controlled centralized entrance examination, conducted by the Assam Science and Technology University for admission into the seven premier government engineering colleges in Assam. The test is taken after the 12th grade for admission to graduation courses. The exam can be taken by those who studied Pure Science stream in plus two level with the specific subjects tested in the examination, which are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Every year approximately 25,000 - 40,000 students take the examination, and it is increasing every year. Students of both Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and the Central Board of Secondary Education board take the test. Formerly the examination was conducted by Dibrugarh University and since 2018 it is conducted by Assam Science & Technology University. It was previously known as the Assam Joint Admission Test (Assam-JAT) until the year 2012 and comprised both engineering and medical entrance examinations. Since then, the medical section of JAT was known as Assam Medical Entrance Examination (Assam-MEE).

Barak Valley Engineering College (BVEC) is a state government engineering college located in Karimganj, Assam. It was established on 14 August 2017 by Assam Government at Karimganj district, Assam. It is affiliated to Assam Science and Technology University. On 2 March 2011, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of the Barak Valley Engineering College in Karimganj district, which was proposed by the Assam Government officially.
