Assam Skill University is a public state university located at Mangaldai, Darrang district, Assam, India. It was established by The Assam Skill University Act, 2020 which was passed by the Assam Legislative Assembly on 3 September 2020 [1] and received the assent of the Governor of Assam on 12 October 2020 [2] On 7 August 2021, former IAS officer, who had served as the Additional Chief Secretary of Assam, Subhash Chandra Das was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University. [3] The Chief Minister of Assam by virtue of his office is the chancellor of the university.

Academics

The university offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate courses in various fields, such as agriculture, engineering, healthcare, hospitality, tourism, media, and communication. The university also provides various facilities and services for the overall development of the students, such as sports facilities, hostel accommodation, medical facilities, and career counseling services.

History

On 15 February 2021, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of Assam Skill University at Mangaldoi, Darrang. He was accompanied by minister of Skill, Employment and entrepreneurship department Chandra Mohan Patowary and other dignitaries. [4]

The Assam Skill University will be set up under the external-aided project funded by the Asian Development Bank. [5]

Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician who serving as 9th Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways since 2024. He is the 14th Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021 and the former of Assam Legislative Assembly from Majuli from 2016 until he resigned in 2021 and from Moran constituency from 2001 to 2004. The Sonowal ministry was the state ministry of Assam headed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from 2016 till 2021. The ministry was formed on 24 May 2016 on the aftermath of the 2016 legislative assembly election which resulted in the Bharatiya Janata Party emerging as the majority party.

Atul Chandra Barua was the 46th president of Asam Sahitya Sabha and a prominent name in the modern Assamese literature. He was an ACS officer and an Assamese writer. He worked for the cause of Darrangi culture and was conferred with the title "Darrang Ratna".

Majuli University of Culture is a state government university located in Majuli, Assam dedicated for research, teaching and education in the field of humanities and performing arts. The university is established by Majuli University of Culture Bill, 2017 which was passed by the Government of Assam on 7 September 2017. Recently, the Government of Assam announced that the University will be upgraded to a full fledged University having Humanities, Commerce and Science disciplines apart from the Cultural and Performing Arts part catering to the need of the common people of Majuli District and rest of the state in sync with the New Education Policy. On 13 July 2018 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the state's first cultural university at Majuli to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.

Tanka Bahadur Rai is an Indian National Congress politician from the state of Assam. He was a Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Indian National Congress for Barchalla. He was Deputy Speaker and then Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly. He was also a minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet.
