Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya or Krishnaguru Spiritual University is the sixth private university of Assam. The university is established by Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya Bill, 2017 which was passed by the Government of Assam on 9 March 2017.

Contents

The Krishnaguru Foundation set the private spiritual university at Nasatra in Bajali district. The foundation was set up by spiritual guru Krishnaguru. [1]

On 3 August 2017 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Vishvavidyalaya. The university imparts contemporary education in blend with spiritualism. [2]

Sarbananda Sonowal Union Cabinet Minister in Government of India

Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician from Assam who is the current Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Cabinet Minister of AYUSH in the Government of India. He is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Assam and also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs. He is a former Chief Minister of Assam and a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (India) in Assam Legislative Assembly. Sonowal earlier served as the Assam state President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2012 to 2014 and again in 2015 to 2016. He has also served as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, from 2014 to 2016. He was chosen to be the Chief Minister of Assam after the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly election and he became the first Chief Minister of Assam from Bharatiya Janata Party. During the cabinet reshuffle on 7 July 2021, he was inducted Cabinet minister in the 2nd Modi Cabinet.

The higher education system in India includes both private and public universities. Public universities are supported by the Government of India and the state governments, while private universities are mostly supported by various bodies and societies. Universities in India are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which draws its power from the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. In addition, 15 Professional Councils are established, controlling different aspects of accreditation and coordination. Private universities in India are regulated under the UGC Regulations, 2003. Per the UGC act and these regulations, private universities are established by an act of a local legislative assembly and listed by the UGC in the Gazette upon receiving the act. As confirmed by ruling of the Supreme Court of India, recognition by the UGC is required for the university to operate. Also, per the 2003 regulations, the UGC sends committees to inspect the private universities and publishes their inspection report.

The Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) is an annual film festival held in Guwahati, Assam, India.The State Government-owned Jyoti Chitraban Society organised the festival in association with the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute. The first ever Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) to be held in northeast India, which will be inaugurated on 28 October 2017 by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Assam government supported festival began on 28 October with screening of the Oscar winning ‘The Salesman’, directed by Asghar Farhadi and produced by a joint collaboration of Iran and France.

Golaghat Engineering College

Golaghat Engineering College was established in 2018 by Assam Government at Golaghat district, Assam. On 31 March 2012, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of the Golaghat Engineering College in Golaghat district, which was proposed by the Assam Government officially. It was officially inaugurated by chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal on 5 February 2019.

Majuli University of Culture is a public state university located in Majuli, Assam dedicated for research, teaching and education in the field of culture. The university is established by Majuli University of Culture Bill, 2017 which was passed by the Government of Assam on 7 September 2017. On 13 July 2018 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the state's first cultural university at Majuli to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.
