Majuli University of Culture is a state government university located in Majuli, Assam dedicated for research, teaching and education in the field of humanities and performing arts. The university is established by Majuli University of Culture Bill, 2017 which was passed by the Government of Assam on 7 September 2017. Recently, the Government of Assam announced that the University will be upgraded to a full fledged University having Humanities, Commerce and Science disciplines apart from the Cultural and Performing Arts part catering to the need of the common people of Majuli District and rest of the state in sync with the New Education Policy. [1] On 13 July 2018 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the state's first cultural university at Majuli to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore. [2]

On 21 September 2022 Professor Nirode Boruah took oath as the Vice Chancellor of the Majuli University of Culture at a function held in Raj Bhavan. [3]

It is one of the oldest urban areas in Assam that recently featured on the Smart Cities nominations list, along with Guwahati and four other prominent urban areas of the state; although losing out to Guwahati at the final stage. Jorhat is an administrative district of the Indian state of Assam situated in the central part of the Brahmaputra Valley. The district is bounded by Majuli on north, Nagaland state on the south, Sivasagar on the east and Golaghat on the west. On the north of the district, the river Brahmaputra forms the largest riverine island of the world. The administrative seat is at Jorhat city.

Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician who serving as 9th Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways since 2024. He also the Member of the Rajya Sabha representing Assam since 2021 and also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs since 2021. He is the 14th Chief Minister of Assam from 2016 to 2021 and the former of Assam Legislative Assembly from Majuli from 2016 until he resigned in 2021 and from Moran constituency from 2001 to 2004. Sonowal earlier served as the Assam state unit President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2012 to 2014 and again from 2015 to 2016. He has also served as the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, from 2014 to 2016 and the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Skill Development from 2014 to 2014 and the member of the Lok Sabha from Lakhimpur from 2014 to 2016 and from Dibrugarh from 2004 to 2009. He was also the member of the Asom Gana Parishad from 2001 to 2011.

Assam is the main and oldest state in the North-East Region of India and as the gateway to the rest of the Seven Sister States. The land of red river and blue hills, Assam comprises three main geographical areas: the Brahmaputra Valley which stretching along the length of the Brahmaputra river, the Barak Valley extending like a tail, and the intervening Karbi Plateau and North Cachar Hills. Assam shares its border with Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and West Bengal; and there are National Highways leading to their capital cities. It is one of Assam's most well-renowned and principle monastic Satra, established by Banamali Dev Goswami in 1654 under the patronization of Ahom King Jayadhwaj Singha. This Satra particularly belongs to Brahmasamhati sect, founded by Damodardev.

Majuli College is based at Kamalabari in Majuli, Assam, India. It was founded in 1962, and is affiliated to AHSEC and Dibrugarh University besides being recognized by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC). The college is located on a fortified campus surrounded by a few Vaishnavite monasteries called satras and lush-green paddy fields.

The Golaghat Convention was a historic national convention of the people of Assam, organised in Golaghat for 2 days from 13–14 October 1985.

Neel Pawan Baruah was an Indian painter from Assam. In 2021, he was awarded the Assam Sourav Award, the second-highest civilian honor of Assam by the Government of Assam. Some of his notable paintings include Green Bird, Kaliya Daman, Shankhachakra Gadapadma, Sleeping Man, Victory of Vietnam, Scream, Three Powers, Patchitra and The Three Faces of the Godde.
