Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University is a state university in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was founded in 2006.

KKHSOU offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate courses in various fields such as humanities, social sciences, commerce, management, science, and technology. The university also offers professional courses in fields like law, journalism, and mass communication.

History

The university was established by the Assam Legislative Assembly by Act XXXVII of 2005 in 2005. The Act received the assent from the Governor on the same year.

It was recognized by the University Grants Commission in 2009, [1] which lists 2007 as the year of establishment. [2]

Assam Combined Entrance Examination (Assam-CEE) is a state-government controlled centralized entrance examination, conducted by the Assam Science and Technology University for admission into the seven premier government engineering colleges in Assam. The test is taken after the 12th grade for admission to graduation courses. The exam can be taken by those who studied Pure Science stream in plus two level with the specific subjects tested in the examination, which are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Every year approximately 25,000 - 40,000 students take the examination, and it is increasing every year. Students of both Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and the Central Board of Secondary Education board take the test. Formerly the examination was conducted by Dibrugarh University and since 2018 it is conducted by Assam Science & Technology University. It was previously known as the Assam Joint Admission Test (Assam-JAT) until the year 2012 and comprised both engineering and medical entrance examinations. Since then, the medical section of JAT was known as Assam Medical Entrance Examination (Assam-MEE).

Hojai College, established on 11 July 1964, is a general degree college situated in Hojai, Assam. This college is affiliated with the Gauhati University. The college offers H.S. courses and three-year degree courses in bachelor's degrees of arts, science and commerce. Master's degree in Assamese was started in the academic session 2016–17. The educational institution also provides courses in Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) under Gauhati University, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) courses.
