Odisha State Open University (OSOU) is a distance learning state university [2] located in Sambalpur, Odisha, India. The university was established by an Act of the Odisha State Legislature in 2015. The university has jurisdiction over the entire State of Odisha.
OSOU has established 67 Study Centres at Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rourkela, Jeypore, Koraput, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Paralakhemundi, Malkangiri, Bolangir, Bargarh, Bhawanipatna, Athagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Pallahara, Puri, Kendrapara, Khurda, Keonjhar, Nabrangpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Baripada, Nayagarh, Rayagada and Sonepur. Learners are attached to these centres for academic support through trained counsellors and tutors.

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) is a business school in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Established in 1987, XIMB is governed by the Government of India, the Government of Odisha, and the Jesuits. The school was founded under what the parties called a 'social contract' between the Government of Odisha and the Jesuits in Odisha, with Fr. Romuald D'Souza SJ being its founder-director. XIMB has been part of the exclusive Super League of B-Schools (Top-10) in India – the highest tier rated by All India Management Association (AIMA). XIMB was ranked 10th in the prestigious Dare2Compete India's Top 10 Competitive B-Schools 2022. The institute was also ranked 1st in the state of Orissa Education World B-schools ranking 2020–21. Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) formerly College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar (CETB) is a public unitary technical university under the state government of Odisha located in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, India. It was established in 1981, by Government of Orissa, as a constituent college of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology. Students are admitted to the college through the Joint Entrance Examination (main) merit list of Government of India. The Institute is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. The Government of Odisha has granted unitary university status.

XIM University is a Jesuit, Catholic university located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It was authorized by the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2013 making it the first Jesuit university in India. Drawing its legacy from Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar(XIMB), founded by the Jesuits in 1987, the university was facilitated by the Govt of Odisha in 2013 and went on to be called as XIM University with XIMB now being a constituent school offering only MBA-BM through XIM University. The other XIMB courses like HRM and RM are now continued by separate schools under XIM University. The sprawling XIM University campus is situated at Sundarpada jatani road near Jatani town in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The Jesuits have more than 50 colleges and several hundred educational institutes in India but this is the first university they have founded in the country.
Baidyanath Misra was an Indian economist, educator, author, and administrator from the state of Odisha. He served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Deputy-Chairman of Odisha State Planning Board, Chairman of Odisha's First State Finance Commission, Secretary of Odisha State Welfare Board, founder Secretary and President of Orissa Economics Association, and the founder Director and Chairman of Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies. He wrote 16 books in English and 20 in Odia. He was also a columnist in several leading Odia journals and newspapers. He organised several camps across Odisha, for helping the cause of the poor and downtrodden.
