The N.C. Autonomous College (Narasingh Choudhury Autonomous College) is a 30-acre college in Jajpur, Odisha, India. It was founded in 1946. It is one of the oldest colleges of Odisha and stands tall in the heart of Jajpur district headquarters. [1] The college was initially affiliated to Utkal University but now it has autonomous status from the session 1999-2000 as per UGC and B+ grade accredits with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC.

History

The college is named after Choudhary Narasingha Charan Mohapatra of Kodandpur, the principal donor of the institution. The college fulfilled a long-cherished desire of the people of this area.

Classes were held in Jajpur High School until 1952. Thereafter the college was shifted to its present campus that stretches in a serene rural setting, about 2 km to the west of the historical town of Jajpur. Jajpur NC College has lost autonomous status since 2012. However, admission for self-financing courses at Plus III level is being conducted by the college on claims of being autonomous.

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) an autonomous institute is located at Sarang of Parjang block in Dhenkanal district in the Indian state of Odisha. It was established in 1982 by the government of Odisha. In addition to four year undergraduate degree courses, it offers three year Diploma courses in technical disciplines and a 3-year postgraduate degree in computer applications. Ravenshaw University State Public University

Ravenshaw University, formerly known as Ravenshaw college, is a co-educational state university situated in Cuttack, Odisha on the eastern coast of India. Founded as Ravenshaw College in 1868, the institution became a university in 2006. The university has nine schools, thirty three academic departments and a student enrolment of nearly 8,000. It is one of the oldest educational institutes in the country and its history is synonymous with the history of modern Odisha.

Biraja Temple

The Biraja Temple, or Birija Kshetra, is a historic Hindu temple located in Jajpur, Odisha, India. The present temple was built during the 13th century. The principal idol is Devi Durga, who is worshiped as Viraja (Girija), and the temple gave Jajpur the nicknames "Viraja Kshetra" and "Biraja Peetha". The Durga idol has two hands (dwibhuja), spearing the chest of Mahishasura with one hand and pulling his tail with the other. One of her feet is on a lion, and the other is on Mahishasura's chest. Mahishasura is depicted as a water buffalo. The idol's crown features Ganesha, a crescent moon and a lingam. The temple covers a large area, and has several shrines to Shiva and other deities. According to the Skanda Purana it cleanses pilgrims, and it is called the Viraja or the Biraja kshetra. Jajpur is believed to have about one crore of Shiva lingams.
