International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIIT-BH or IIIT-BBSR) is a self-sustaining state university located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. It was established in 2006 under the IIIT Act of 2004 by the Government of Odisha.

The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of Information Technology, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. MTech and PhD programs are also available in Computer Science and Electronics and Communication. The institute is a University Grants Commission (India) recognised Unitary Technical University.

The campus is located in Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar, and is spread over 23 acres of land. It houses classrooms, laboratories, a library, separate hostels for boys and girls, faculty living quarters, sports facilities, and an auditorium.

History

IIIT Bhubaneswar was initiated by the Government of Odisha and registered as a society in 2006, [1] with the goal of providing quality technical education in the field of Information Technology. The institute started operating in September 2007 [1] with the first batch of undergraduate students.On 9th Oct 2009 Chief minister Naveen Patnaik officially inaugurated the newly constructed campus of Institute. [2]

The institute owes its origins to the private initiative of the Government of Odisha, which recognized the need for a technical university that could provide quality education in the field of Information Technology. In 2005, the then President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, laid the foundation stone for the institute.

The management of the institute is in the hands of a governing body, consisting of representatives from the government of Odisha, leaders from the IT industry, and educationists. The institute is also recognized as a University Grants Commission (India) (UGC) recognised Unitary Technical University.

Academic programmes

The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Undergraduate programs award BTech in information technology and areas of Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, information Technology and computer science. MTech and PhD programmes are available in computer science and electronics and communication. [3] The institute is a University Grants Commission (India) recognised Unitary Technical University.

Admissions

Admissions to undergraduate programs at IIIT-Bh are through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains. The institute has a 50:50 quota system, with 50% of the seats reserved for the All India Quota and allocated by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The remaining 50% of seats are reserved for students from Odisha, who are admitted through their own counseling process.

Advaita : The Hymn of Paradox - 2023

Advaita [4] is an annual techno-cultural festival organized by the International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIIT-Bh). The festival brings together students, tech enthusiasts, and cultural aficionados from across the country to celebrate creativity, innovation, and talent.

The festival is a unique platform that showcases India's rich cultural heritage and its rapidly evolving technology landscape. Advaita offers a range of events and competitions that cater to a diverse range of interests and skills, including coding competitions, robotics challenges, gaming tournaments, and technical workshops.

One of the key events at Advaita is the Hackathon, a 24-hour coding marathon that challenges participants to solve real-world problems using their technical skills and creativity. The competition draws some of the best coders and developers from around the country and provides a platform for them to showcase their talent and learn from their peers.

Another popular event at Advaita is the RoboRace, a robotics competition where participants design and build robots to compete in various challenges. The competition tests the participants' technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork and provides an opportunity for them to apply their knowledge and creativity to real-world problems.

Advaita also offers a range of cultural events that showcase India's rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions. These events include musical performances by renowned artists, dance competitions, fashion shows, and street plays.   14. Photography Competition: A competition where participants showcase their photography skills on a variety of themes.

  16. Pronites : The Pronites at Advaita featured a star-studded lineup of performers, including Swati Sachdeva, Band Parashara, DJ Carnivore, and Asees Kaur, who delivered electrifying performances and kept the audience grooving all night long.

Nebulae

Nebulae is the annual welcome party for the Bachelor of Technology (BTech) freshmen at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIIT-Bh). This event is usually held within two weeks of the start of the academic year and is conducted by the sophomores, although third and fourth-year seniors also participate.

The event is aimed at welcoming the new batch of students to the institute and is an opportunity for them to get to know their seniors, faculty, and classmates. The sophomores, who organize the event, plan various activities such as games, music, dance performances, and cultural events to ensure that the freshmen feel welcome and comfortable in their new environment.

Nebulae is also an opportunity for the sophomores, who have just completed their first year at IIIT-Bh, to showcase their organizational skills and leadership abilities. The event is often planned and executed with great enthusiasm and creativity, and the sophomores take pride in welcoming the new batch of students to the institute.

E-Cell IIIT-Bh

The Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) of the International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar (IIIT-BH) is a student-run organisation that aims to promote entrepreneurship among the student community. The E-Cell was established in 2018 with the objective of encouraging and supporting students in their entrepreneurial pursuits.

The E-Cell organises various events and workshops throughout the year to create awareness about entrepreneurship, develop entrepreneurial skills, and provide a platform for students to showcase their ideas. These events include guest lectures, panel discussions, workshops on topics such as ideation, pitching, and business plan development. The E-Cell also hosts various competitions such as business plan competitions, hackathons, and idea pitching events.

In addition to these events, the E-Cell also provides mentorship and networking opportunities for students. The E-Cell has a mentor network composed of successful entrepreneurs and industry experts who provide guidance and support to students in their entrepreneurial journey. The E-Cell also organises networking events to connect students with potential investors and industry professionals.

The E-Cell of IIIT-BH has been successful in creating an ecosystem that fosters entrepreneurship among the student community. Several startups have been established by students of IIIT-BH, with the support of the E-Cell. The E-Cell has also collaborated with various organisations and institutions to provide students with access to resources and funding opportunities.

GDSC IIIT-Bh

The Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) - IIIT Bhubaneswar is a dynamic community of passionate and innovative students dedicated to exploring and mastering Google technologies. Established to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, our GDSC chapter serves as a hub for collaboration, skill development, and project innovation.

GDSC IIIT-Bh's mission is to empower students to become proficient developers, equipped with the knowledge and skills needed in the rapidly evolving technology landscape. We strive to create a supportive environment where students can learn, share ideas, and contribute to impactful projects.

It is responsible for regularly organizing workshops and training sessions on various Google technologies, including Android development, web development, machine learning, and cloud computing. Members have the opportunity to work on hands-on projects that leverage Google tools, fostering practical experience and creativity.

Students actively participate in and organize hackathons, coding competitions, and other events to challenge and showcase the skills of our members. GDSC IIIT-Bh invites industry experts and professionals to share insights through guest lectures. We also facilitate networking opportunities for members to connect with mentors and potential employers.

Etymologically, the word ‘Techspardha’ is composed of two words, ‘Tech’ in English is a contraction of technology and ‘Spardha’ in Hindi means competition. Techspardha is known for hosting a variety of events that include competitions, exhibitions, guest lectures as well as workshops.
