Sri Sri University, is an Indian private university, based in Cuttack, Odisha, established on 26 December 2009. The university came into operation in the year 2012. [3] At present, the university is offering different courses in areas of management, architecture, humanities, agriculture, health and wellness, science, literature, osteopathy and performing & fine arts.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is the founder of Sri Sri University. Popularly known as Sri Sri, he has been an advocate of India's ancient traditions, scientific knowledge and spiritual heritage. [1]
On 22 February 2012, Sri Sri University was notified by the Higher Education Department of the Government of Odisha as a legal entity after clearing a High Power Committee (HPC) scrutiny of its infrastructure, academic, regulatory, financial and manpower preparedness. The notification has featured in an extraordinary issue of Government of Odisha Gazette.
The university has received approval from the Government of Odisha, the national University Grants Commission, [4] All India Council for Technical Education, [5] Indian Council of Agricultural Research [6] and Council of Architecture [7] to offer its degree programmes. As an independent university, Sri Sri University is also authorised to offer new courses, as per the Sri Sri University Act 2009.
Sri Sri University's focus on sustainable living, emphasis on synthesis of ancient and modern [8] along with innovation in teaching learning process have been appreciated and received recognition., [9] [10]
The campus houses the admin block, academic block, computer lab, library, seminar halls, practise halls, amphitheatre, hostels, Vidya (skill training centre), dining hall and cafeteria. The academic block houses classrooms, tutorial centers and a student activity centre. The university offers sports facilities including a gym, basketball court, lawn tennis court, volleyball court and a cricket ground. [11]
There are currently 16 clubs dedicated to different activities. [12]
The university has started a vocational program in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro under its Corporate Social Responsibility commitments. All students of this vocational program are employed by L&T in their domestic and international projects. [13] To begin with the university had started only bar bending and masonry skill programs. But presently new programs like driving, tailoring and other vocations have been included.
Sri Sri University Overall ranking by National Institutional Ranking Framework Innovation is 51 out of 312 colleges in India in 2023 (2nd in Odisha). [15]
Sri Sri University Overall ranking by IIRF is 11 out of 171 colleges in India in 2023 and it was 8 out of 161 colleges in India in 2022. Sri Sri University Architecture ranking by IIRF is 37 out of 45 colleges in India in 2024 and it was 36 out of 44 colleges in India in 2023. [16]
Cuttack, is the former capital, deputy capital and the 2nd largest city of the Indian state of Odisha. It is also the headquarters of the Cuttack district. The name of the city is an anglicised form of the Odia and Sanskrit name Kataka, which literally means the fort, a reference to the ancient Barabati Fort around which the city initially developed. Cuttack is known as the Millennium City as well as the Silver City due to its history of 1000 years and famous silver filigree works respectively. The Orissa High Court and some other Odisha State Govt. offices are located there, and the city is the judiciary capital of Odisha. It is the commercial capital of Odisha, which hosts many trading and business houses in and around the city. The city is famous for strongly holding the sense of fraternity and brotherhood. The city is famous in Orissa for some types of food, such as the Thunkapuri, Dahibara, Lassi, various kinds of Chat etc. Amongst all districts in Orissa, the undivided Cuttack district is famous for its tasty delicacies and sweets. Cuttack is famous for its Durga Puja, which is one of the most important festivals of Odisha. Being the favourite destination of poets and artists, it is also a cultural hub of Odisha. Due to its beauty, the term Kataka Nagara Dhabala Tagara is coined for it. The city is categorised as a Tier II city as per the ranking system used by the Government of India.
University Grants Commission is a statutory body under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was set up in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disbursements of funds to such recognized universities and colleges. The UGC headquarters are in New Delhi, and it has six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore. A proposal to replace it with another new regulatory body called HECI is under consideration by the Government of India. The UGC provides doctoral scholarships to all those who clear JRF in the National Eligibility Test. On an average, each year ₹725 crore (US$85 million) is spent on doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships by the commission.
The Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering, commonly known as TKMCE, is the first government-aided engineering institution in the Indian state of Kerala, with foundation stone laid on 2nd February 1956, and inaugurated on 3 July 1958. The campus is located in Karicode, approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away from Kollam, Kerala, India. The college was affiliated to Kerala University before getting changed to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University when it was formed in 2015. UGC conferred autonomous status to the institution in 2022.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body, and a national-level council for technical education, under the Department of Higher Education. Indira Gandhi National Open University, known as IGNOU, is a public distance learning university located in Delhi, India. Ravenshaw University, formerly known as Ravenshaw College, is a co-educational state university situated in Cuttack, Odisha on the eastern coast of India. Founded as Ravenshaw College in 1868, the institution became a university in 2006. The university has nine schools, thirty three academic departments and a student enrolment of nearly 8,000. It is one of the oldest educational institutes in the country and its history is synonymous with the history of modern Odisha.
Ajay Binay Institute of Technology is an ISO 9000:2000 certified institution in Cuttack, Odisha, India, affiliated to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. National Law University Odisha (NLUO) is a public law school and a National law University in India located at Cuttack, Odisha. It was established in 2008 under the National Law University Odisha Act, commencing its first batch from July 2009. The NLUO offers undergraduate, and post-graduate courses in law. It is one of the 25 NLUs in the country.
