Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922, and the oldest currently active university in East Africa. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school, offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. These colleges include College of Natural Sciences (CONAS), College of Health Sciences (CHS), College of Engineering Art & Design (CEDAT), College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (CAES), College Of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), College of Humanities & Social Sciences (CHUSS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS), College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources & Bio-security (COVAB), College of Education and External Studies (CEES) and Makerere University Business School (MUBS). Anne Juuko, is a Ugandan investment banker and corporate executive, who was appointed by Standard Bank Group as the Regional Head of Global Markets in the group's Eastern African region, covering South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia. Her appointment took effect on 1 April 2024. Her work station is located in Nairobi, Kenya. Before that, from 1 March 2020 until 31 March 2024, she was the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, the largest commercial bank in the country, by assets, valued at US$1.6 billion as of June 2019. She took up this appointment on 1 March 2020.
James Patrick Manyenye Ntozi was an Ugandan retired academic and farmer. He worked as a researcher in demographics and statistics at Makerere University in Uganda, with his main research projects focusing on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa, fertility, census-taking, and aging and the life cycle. A medical demographer and statistician by training, his areas of expertise include gauging needs assessment, conducting evaluations, and creating baseline studies. After retirement, he took up work as a farmer. In 2011, the book Demography of Uganda and Selected African Countries was published in honor of his research contributions. Professor Ntozi died on Wednesday 19 May 2021 in Kampala, Uganda.
Nadine Byarugaba, is a Ugandan businesswoman, and management consultant. She is the current chairperson of the board of directors of Absa Bank Uganda Limited, effective 28 July 2020. Before that, from September 2019, she served on the same board, as chairperson in acting capacity, replacing Swithin Munyantwali, who was appointed non-executive director to the board of Absa Group Limited.
Diana Mulili is a Kenyan economist, businesswoman, executive coach and corporate executive. She is the director, Digital Ecosystem for Africa at Prudential Africa. She is based in Nairobi, Kenya's capital city. She took up her current position in February 2022. Before that, she was the Chief Growth Officer (CGO), at Xetova Limited, an e-commerce company, focusing of B2B supply chain issues. Xetova is based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Winifred Mary Tarinyeba Kiryabwire, , is a Ugandan lawyer, academic and businesswoman who is the chairperson of DFCU Bank, a large commercial bank in Uganda. She was appointed to that position effective 1 April 2022.
Jennifer Kabura Karina, is a Kenyan businesswoman, "psychologist, certified professional coach, energy leadership practitioner, public speaker and author". Effective July 2021, she serves as the chairperson of the board of directors at the Kenya Reinsurance Corporation, a publicly traded company on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. Before she was appointed to her current position, she was a member of the board at Kenya RE and chaired the human resources and nominations committee of that board.
Patience Mutesi is a Rwandan businesswoman and corporate executive. She is the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of BPR Bank Rwanda Plc, a commercial bank in Rwanda and a subsidiary of the KCB Group, a financial services conglomerate, based in Kenya. She took her present position on 1 February 2023.
