Barren is an extinct town in southern Carter County, in the Ozarks of southeastern Missouri, United States. [1] The community was located on the banks of Big Barren Creek, (a tributary of the Current River) just north of the Carter - Ripley county line. The area is within the Mark Twain National Forest. [2]
Carter County is a county in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,265. The county seat is Van Buren. The county was officially organized on March 10, 1859, and is named after Zimri A. Carter, a pioneer settler who came to Missouri from South Carolina in 1812.

A post office called Barren was established in 1887, and remained in operation until 1932. [3] The community took its name from Big Barren Creek. [4]
Moody is an unincorporated community in southwestern Howell County, Missouri, United States. It is located sixteen miles south of West Plains, just north of Route 142 on Route E. Bennetts River flows past the west side of the community. The Missouri-Arkansas state line is approximately 1.5 miles to the south.

Barren Creek flows into Norfork Lake in Arkansas about four miles to the southwest.
Cedargrove is an extinct town in the northwest corner of Shannon County, in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. The community is located just south of the Shannon - Dent county line on the Current River, just north of the Big Creek confluence with the Current. It lies at the end of Missouri Route B, two miles east of the Shannon - Texas county line.
Low Wassie is an unincorporated community in eastern Shannon County, in the Ozarks of southern Missouri, United States. The community is located at the junction of Pike and Sycamore Creeks on Missouri Route W, approximately one mile north of U.S. Route 60.
