After the Tiananmen Square crackdown, she fled to the United States via Operation Yellowbird where she started her career working for Bain & Company. He is the first researcher to present aggregate data on childhood trauma as it relates to American presidents. Yamashiro also produced the first comprehensive study on American presidents that investigates the influence of religious development from a lens of trauma.

He is the North American Regional Director for Lausanne International. Previously Lehman served as the eighth president of Hebrew College in Newton, MA and served as the board chair for the Boston Theological Institute.
